We have now set the bar lower than thought humanly possible.

Carney’s manager David Riolo leapt to the defence of his client on Monday morning, telling Fairfax Radio Network the photo was never intended to be made public.

“It’s a setup, like when people stand in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa,” Riolo said.

“Todd’s paid a very, very heavy price for a photo that he didn’t want out there or upload himself. It was supposed to be kept between mates.

“The person who took the photo contacted me this morning by text and said `my phone got lost’, supposedly, and that’s how the photo got out. It was meant to be a joke.

“He’s now got a photo of himself gone worldwide in not a very pleasant setting that’s going to be on the net for his family and everyone to see for future generations.

“That in itself is a very big price to pay.”
Bogan persecution complex.

CRONULLA players have been encouraged to attend today’s information session with the NRL over the use of supplements at the club in 2011 and are expected to learn whether they will receive show cause notices.

The NRL will be hoping to bring the protracted 18-month saga to a head today when it updates players and/or their legal representatives on the ASADA investigation and any options they have regarding suspensions.

“The players really are in the dark and it’s a bit of a shambles the way the NRL has tried to rush this all through,” said a source close to the negotiations.

“Although they might only miss a month of football, the players are still concerned about their reputations.”
In all seriousness, what reputational harm does this do? They're meat heads. It's impossible to harm the reputation of a meat head. Meat headed, dishonest, illegal decision making is their livelihood.

It'd affect their reputations more if they knowingly cheated than if they simply took on trust that something was allowed. There's a difference between guilty and gormless.

That's the professional sports equivalent of a politician choosing to appear stupid rather than corrupt, yeah?

I'd like to be able to offer a comment, but I regret that I didn't read that particular briefing, your honour.

A SELECTED number of past and present Sharks players have today been offered one-year suspensions - back-dated to November 1, 2013 - if they admit to taking banned substances.

After revealing 17 players had received ASADA show cause notices this morning, The Daily Telegraph has now learned several players have been offered a deal that would see them free to return to regular duty this November - effectively a ban of just over two months.

It’s not certain whether all 17 players have been offered this deal.
That is about as soft and spineless as you can get.

Augers well for the druggies in Melbourne.

Unlike the other bogan game, there are rival league bodies overseas. If I were them I'd like to know just how ASADA goes about enforcing WADA code.

Not a concern for the Drools though, they're free to go about demoting their league from a legitimate sporting competition to a highly contested sporting performance.

Mitchell Watt said it best.

Take prohibited drugs, get a 10 week ban. Accidentally give ASADA the wrong address of your house, get a 2 year ban. Truly ludicrous

Anyone who challenges the ban is a loon.

But don't you get it? A guilty plea will seriously harm their chances of getting jobs after football that involve wearing shirts.

Somebody doesn't know where they live? Never mind the two year ban, they shouldn't be allowed outside without adult supervision...

Roy Masters wrote:]ASADA has tabled with AFL chief executive, Gillon McLachlan, a six-month sanction for Essendon players, on the condition they accept they took performance-enhancing substances in 2011-12.

If Essendon wait until the Federal Court's Justice John Middleton brings down his decision in the club's case that a joint AFL/ASADA investigation was unlawful, the offer will be withdrawn.

Roy Masters hasn't gotten a thing right since Super League.

But if this deal is true then you'd think Essendon playing in the finals this year hinges on Justice Middleton.
