Australian Made Concert at Endeavour Field

I can't believe I just found this video on You Tube!

Does anyone remember the days when outdoor concerts at football grounds were all the rage? From memory this one also featured the Divinyls.

Before my time unfortunately.

You can see some shots with the stage at the southern end. Must be the biggest crowd that joint has ever had. I know Wests played a concert at Lidcombe Oval for their fightback in 1983 or 84.

There were some different venues used in the past. The old tennis venues hosted a few concerts as did the Sydney Showground. Aside from the BDO, the new Showground hosts no concerts. For some reason the football grounds have become more popular or lawn maintanence technology allows them to host more concerts these days.

Correct me if I'm wrong but my memory suggests this was circa 1986/7 as I'm pretty sure the Australian Made concert series was held simultaneously in both Sydney and Melbourne and shown on ABC TV.

Kids of the 80's and early 90's would pick out James Valentine on sax before he hosted afternoon shows on 2.

As for concerts...

Kooyong used to be used quite regularly for big acts before the construction of Flinders Park.

Kiss played VFL Park in 1980.

I noticed the first of the related videos was The Chantoozies. I bet Jeffles fapped himself to sleep with that. :)

The one at Lidcombe Oval featured the Angels and Rose Tattoo. Although I was a huge fan of these two bands, and the Mighty Magpies, I didn't go to that one.

Apart from overseas artists playing one-off concerts at football grounds, for those who don't remember those days, there was a short period in Australian music history when it was highly fashionable to get about half a dozen high profile bands and put on an outdoor concert somewhere.

Another one I went to was at Heathcote Oval, south of Sydney, where tthe Hoodoo Gurus were the headline act. Heathcote Oval was good because the stages faced towards the Royal National Park, you'll notice that the one at Endeavour Field the face was facing Woolooware Bay.

Two other ones I remember now were Noiseworks and Johnny Diesel at Cronulla Beach, and a number of bands including Mi-Sex at Wanda Beach.

Of course there was also Narara but I didn't go there.

I don't know why more of this doesn't happen.

They seems to happen when Parliament is in recess. For a "former singer" Peter Garrett sure gts behind the mic a lot.

Good song and good footage.

One of my mother's first memories after emigrating to Australia was being able to hear ABBA's Sydney Showground concert from her then home in Fitzroy St Surry Hills. Apparently it was pissing down and blwoing a gale so the sound carried across Moore Park.

The wind can carry sound a logn way. I remember being able to hear Greenday and make out the songs from their SCG concert in December 2005 when I was on Dacey Ave near ES Marks Field.

my sympathies.

one reason i must get out to western springs is not just to see the stadium, but because i know i'm going to get a real laugh out of seeing the tip where a number of massive concerts have been held in auckland.

When you look at this hill this is why they have concerts there.
