Next Saturday is the last ever race meeting at Cheltenham Park in Adelaide, Victoria Park has already been lost to South Australian racing and will soon be undergoing a redevelopment into park lands.

Just thought anyone who lives in or near Adelaide might like to know this if they didn't already, any photo opportunities of both venues will soon be extinguished!

Yes they are expecting 8000 people to go to the last ever race meet at Cheltenham.

I am guessing the Adelaide Cup is on at Morphettvale, which is only a hop skip and a jump from my workplace.

Great! Then we can rely on you Egan for some pics huh?

I just become a little saddened when a venue closes, especially when it's been around for a long time, and it appears that Cheltenham Park has been around since 1895. It's also frustrating that there are never enough photos of these venues before they go. For instance Ascot, Kensington, Moorfields, Rosebury and Victoria Park racecourses in Sydney, Epsom in Melbourne, and Gosford, Richmond & Parramatta Trotting tracks in and around Sydney.

Race courses are and always have been a breeding ground for Australian character, it's sad to see any of them go.

Nic, I have two days off on Tuesday and Wednesday will try and get some snap shots. I have a heap of things to do since I have just arrived in Adelaide.

Went to Adelaide Oval yesterday, crowds for a bottom of the ladder team was good.

Well if attendance figures are indicative of interest in sport, it's equally true that non attendance is a solid indication of disinterest. And keeping in mind that per capita figures are absolutely out, let's state the raw figures of non attendees at comparable race meets.

Melbourne Cup - 3.4 million
Adelaide Cup - 1.1 million

Unrelated but how f***ing cheap are these hospitality deals! That's way better value than anything you'd get in Sydney.

Those prices are sensational. If you were a sporting nut you could take advantage of the corporate hospitality then go to the HAL Semi later.
