I think it is a publicity stunt too. I was just suggesting how it may work.

Hmm, $25-40m p.a. Better up Lennon's hypothetical contribution to $15m p.a. Oh, and a funding commitment at that level for ten years.

uh, you know $7m p.a. is peanuts for even tasmania's state govt (annual revenues of about $4b), and would be seen as the ultimate in 'putting tassie on the map'.

To think we spent half of Tasmania's total revenue on a Train Line, is pretty freaky

The M4 East is supposed to cost something in the order of $14b. I think the big road tunnel recently discussed for Melbourne was even more expensive than that. The proposed NW Sydney metro is probably in that ball park too.

Multiple times the Tassie budget.

I do believe Brisbane City Council puts more through the bank account each year then the Tassie State Government does. Then again it's double the population.

But with like 10 times the land area...thus providing for faciliites are even harder. Plus the City of Brisbane also has additional funding coming to it in huge amounts from the Federal and State Government.

WA is 4 times the size of Tasmania, so if Tasmania had 2 million people it would have revenue of 16 billion...I think WA has revenue up around the 40 billion mark.

I've got six words for you Scoops. Equalisation revenue and vertical fiscal imbalance.

I LOVE THE FEDERAL SYSTEM.

I realise that...even so, the quality of the infrastructure in Western Australia and the facilities being planned are a world ahead of Tasmania, even looking at the difference of population.

It is were I am against Ripper's logic that we should not be penalised for a strong economy...this strong economy is due to a weaker Australian Dollar then what we would have if we were independent...plus Labor issues would be all the harder if we were not federally united.

But grant me independence any day

Anyways back to topic....Politis going to own Western Sydney you think?

Nope, but its the first that comes to my head as I have done a 5000 word essay on it for my Spain trip...

Basque nationalism (other than the language component) has strong linkages with Western Australian parochialism. (Main reason I did that essay was to see regionalism in other countries  )

I have been doing the 1916/17 Conscription Debates for another unit and to think that the Catholic Church in Western Australia barely raised an eyeball to conscription and did not have the same parochial linkage to the 'home country' (Ireland) really showed a drastically different culture to the eastern states.

Including its Politics regarding the Labor Party, in who supported conscription taking place in Western Australia and caimpaigned for it leading up to the 1916 referendum. Questions of unity were a central plank of why Western Australian Labor Party supported it as well.

Which today continues to have links in regards to Carpenter being the only State Premier to ban uranium mining in his state. South Australia and Queensland are now free to pursue a policy that used to be restricted due to a national policy, however Western Australia has refused to take it away, despite it no longer being a key platform of National Labor Policy.

Anyhow topic deviation achieved successfully once again 8)

You can go back to the original topic of discussion.
