At least he doesn't play for Collingwood...

Australian heartthrob and Hollywood rising star Chris Egan is set to play the lead role in the upcoming feature, Crush, to be filmed in Perth.

Crush tells the story of Julian Meadows, an American exchange student and disgraced Tae Kwon Do champion whose life is transformed into a living hell after being seduced by the mysterious yet beautiful, Anna. He is trying to get his life back together studying architecture at The University of WA.

After playing Nick Smith on Home and Away for more than three years, Egan moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to advance his acting career. His US television debut was in the miniseries Empire, and was followed by significant roles in the independent film Alpha Male and the feature movie Virgin Territory with Mischa Barton and Hayden Christensen. He also appears in feature movies Resident Evil: Extinction and Eragon, and stars in Fox Broadcasting’s television series Vanished.

Currently Egan is filming the 2008 television series Pretty Handsome alongside a star-studded cast that includes Robert Wagner, Blythe Danner, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joseph Fiennes.

Egan will be supported by an experienced and talented cast including fellow Aussie hunk Christian Clark who has just finished filming the horror movie Prey (directed by George Miller and written by Crush director/writer John V Soto) opposite Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Rogue Traders, Neighbours). Clark’s credits include feature movies Gabriel (in cinemas now), Gates of Hell (to be released 2008), and $quid (in production).

According to Egan, Crush offers the perfect opportunity to once again work with an all-Australian team on home soil.

"I am genuinely excited to be working in Australia again as I've been away for four years, which is much too long! Also I really believe in this script and know that John and Jeff have put together a team of some of the best Australian talent,” said Egan.

“I've never been to Perth so that will be a new experience - I have heard it is a beautiful city. I'm also very excited to spend some time in Sydney with my family and friends over Christmas.”

Filming of the $2 million dollar thriller will take place in and around Perth from 2 January to 8 February 2008.

Crush is planned to open in cinemas across the United States in Autumn 2009, with an Australian release expected later that year.
