Although I think it would save them in the long run in legal costs...after Gehrig sued them for emotional damage every time he set foot onto Subi Oval with the Grandmas...

He still can not play at Subiaco years after the damage...he was fine at the WACA as well...

He would never have succeeded at the Eagles, because of the amount of trash that was thrown at him.

Just came back from the Geelong members 'special' meeting....boy was it a load of crud, absolutely nothing was gained from going there except to see firsthand the Brownlow stand members (those that clapped off the team after the WC game  ) that dislike ANY negativity to do with the Geelong Football Club......+ the are stern Thompson supporters, lets see how he performs next year.

(One guy asked why Thompson was not given a 5 year contract)

I like Cook and Costa but they are true politicians in the way they answer questions, skirting around them and answering their own...

A few questions were unanswered or manipulated into attacks on the person asking......someone asked wh the club did not conduct a review early on in the season, which she intended to ask why the club did not conduct the review after the Collingwood match, apparently Sydney and Fremantle both conducted reviews early-mid season and look where they ended up.

Anyway, i'll be buying my membership again next year, hopefully it is not same-old, same-old.

If I was an official at Geelong, I would sign up John Longmire as soon as possible as the head assistant coach. It worked for Fremantle this season, it also highlights to the supporters and the football public as a whole that Geelong will not put up with another 2006 type year.

I'm sure Longmire, like Harvey at Fremantle would jump at the opportunity, at worst he experiences coaching at another club.

Apparently the fixture for Rnd 1 was annouced on SEN...i missed it but here are a few of them from bigfooty..

Swans v Eagles (! Good move, great to see the GF replay in Rnd 1, not sure where it is being played but it should be at T.S)

Richmond v Carlton (should get a good crowd for this one, although i was hoping for a Rich v Coll Rnd 1 opener at the MCG Friday night).

North v Collingwood (good for North if it is their home game, but i think it may be on a Sunday from what i read)

Geelong v Footscray (would be at the TD, could get a record h/a crowd between the two sides for this one)

Not sure about the others...even these may not be right but they sound good.

If the AFL was serious about show casing the game, this has to be on opening night!

North seem to be getting a good run from the AFL at the moment, last year they had the public holiday game again vs Collingwood.

Could this be the beginning of a serious rivalry?

I heard Hawthorn vs Brisbane @ the GABBA was another one on the cards as well.

Never got round to it, mainly cos I didn’t wanna talk about it, but congratulations to West Coast for winning the Flag, the better team won on the day.

But the way I see, it is 1-all, and it will (hopefully) be a best of 3 series, and with Peter Everitt now at Sydney, I’ve never been more confident in my life in believing in the Swans chances of winning.

I’d been thinking Hawthorn were bluffing all along saying they had to make a stance and would finally come to their senses with the Everitt trade, they got a pretty good deal out of it in the end.

Can’t believe Tarrant is now a Docker, he’ll be a good decoy in their forward line and take some pressure of Pav won’t he?

Gardener to the Saints should mean they have a stronger season next year if he (and a heap of other key players are) is fit.

Aside from Egan I guess, but I reckon the Doggies have done well in getting Akermanis and MacDougall, I thought MacDougall was a gun a couple of years ago and he hasn’t handle injuries well, he’s still young, still tall, definitely worth a run in a team that lacks height.

He sure as hell won't be a target in their forward line. I can't believe he's so consistently rated when he only averages 2 goals a game!

I hope the Geel v Foots game becomes a big rivalry and many years down the track it replaces the Melb v Geel game as our rivalry....because Melbourne isn't really a traditional rival....we have none really.

I also heard Freo v Port at Subi for the opening game....bit strange having the Rnd 22 clash of the 2006 season as the opener for the 2007 season.

Anywho, from the members meeting i was quite interested in 1 of the KPI's (1 of 4) that the GFC have in growth and success for the club 2006-2010.....here is #2..

Quote:
KPI 2 – 'Increased growth and popularity'

Membership to 36,000 by 2010

Community linkages “touch every school, football club and charity in Geelong”

“Matchday experience” & maximise home game attendances

Maintain a high level of FTA TV exposure, 12M+ viewers

Develop a brand strategy

Phase 2 of SS redevelopment completed by end 2010

Corporate sponsorship profit to $5.5M by 2010

Non Football profit to $4M plus pa by 2010

Merchandise profit to min $500k pa by 2010 (incl on-field sponsorship)

Supporters to 600,000 nationally by 2010 & develop substantial eCommerce business

Be recognised as "customer service champions"

The 36k figure for memberships by 2010 seems a reasonable target, if we were to say win a premiership i am sure that figure would be boosted past 38k.....i am estimating that our membership # next season will be around the mid to high 31,000's....a few bandwagoners should drop off, but it really depends on the form of the team in the pre-season and opening rounds.

Our FTA coverage was quite good this season, i think the figure was over 14million (of those who watched Geelong play), which is decent, i wonder how many FN games we will get next season, it will surely drop after this seasons placing.

Phase 2 of the SS redevelopment is what i am not sure of, it would be good if anyone has some info on it, because i think the plan is to have the capacity of SS reach 36k by 2015 or so.

Apparently our Non-Football profit beats that of both Coll and Ess...at least thats what Cook said...

Just on the merchandise sales, does anyone have the figures for any other club, it would be interesting to seee where we stack up against other clubs.
