To allow NT, Tassie and Darwin (plus North Queensland, Hunter, Wollongong etc in the long term) - without chopping out foundation clubs. Maybe allow revival of some now defunct foundation clubs?

A two division system won't work...its not part of Australian culture.

Eg A-League is created on Australian culture, Division system is not something we have done and it devalues the State comps in Perth and Adelaide.

Plus the costs would outweigh the revenue...

Agreed re football, but maybe some merit for AFL? (I am a football fan before AFL though)

Its more likely to work for soccer then it is for football - Aussie Rules.

Ya, I don't agree with the stance...

But its an interesting idea, the Soccer v Football name debate has been done...

And if we want to be technically correct, you should call AFL - Australian Rules, AFL is only the name of the league.

No point. Although slowly the AFL is moving towards teams in Gold Coast, Canberra and Darwin its a "must" for the future survival of the AFL.

Actually, the VFA up until #1990 had a 2 division league with promotion/relagation, and the Ammos (VAFA/amatuer league) in Melbourne has more divisions than I can count. That said, it won't work at a fully professional (ie AFL) level, for the reasons already given above - a 2nd division comp would not be viable and the gulf between it and the 1st division soon become too great to bridge.

A second tier comp (maybe East Coast) could be possible at some time in the future (costs too much ATM) - but only as a second tier comp, with no promotion/relegation to the AFL.

Quite so.
The FFA want Association Football (soccer) to be only called simply 'football' - nothing else - like they own the whole sport.
Likewise, the AFL (Australian Football League) market not only their own competition, but also the actual code itself as 'AFL' in the northern states (hence I forgive macadamia for the misuse of 'AFL' - I blame the AFL).
Both these football competition outfits are doing this for cynical corporate branding reasons, and both are equally wrong. All the more reason to resist what they tell you to do and say.

If you don't like using the term "AFL," you can use the term, "Victorian Rules," an ironic name since they haven't ruled the sport for some time.

Not feasible in an age of salary caps and drafts. It's been rumoured that a second tier comp will be formed though.

Look - the poll results suggest most favour the idea because the yes's clearly outnumber the no's!

True, but maybe "f**k off" means "f**k off! Of course they should adopt that system!" :?
