one of the best atmospheres for a freo game which wasn't a derby.
mexican wave went around 9 times, (and boo hoo to any one who thinks it's not footy)
lots of chants, all in all, a great game to be at with a great atmosphere for a football game.

T-N-T, I'M DYNAMITE,
T-N-T and I'LL WIN THE FIGHT.

Eastern Staters don't appreciate the fact that Perth has an absolute fanaticism of Mexican Waves

Mexican Waves go hand in hand with sport in this city...and I love em, as do the rest of the Perth noobs in this city :)

bloody oath do we love the wave. events i have been to with a wave:
(1) tonights game
(2) Steve Waugh playing for NSW vs WA for last match in perth
(3) western forces first game
(4) International rules last year
(5) Freo vs Collingwood last year (112 point win)
(6) atleast 2 other freo games i can't remember

go the wave, go the dockers.

and i am loving it.

the steve waugh match, i never even knew it was, until i got to the ground and saw 20,000 people there and the tv crews, me and some mates thought we would just go to a game of cricket to enjoy. it was pure coincidence about waugh.

and i also went to telstra rally and some district games at steel blue everynow and then.

and at the international rules game, i had a boxing kangaroo cut and died into my hair, it was "sick"

ADHD Hill is where about 300 kids play chasey and start fighting the living daylights out of each other...the parents then go psycho, then the Security Guards start getting all narky and ban tennis balls being thrown out.

Once or Twice is funny, 4-5 times is just plain old annoying.

No problemo, we are normally at a sporting event every week...

In terms of total aggregate attendance, would that make Subi #3 in Australia?

Subi would be 3rd. Suncorp Stadium isn’t too far behind, provided the Roar average 11,000 for the rest of the year, it should break the 1 million mark for total aggregate attendance in 2006.

i reckon if subi had a capacity of 70,000 it might be able to push for a yearly aggragate of 1.5m with just the current games it has now, and if it was to have some cricket games it would easily reach that mark. but lets hope cricket stays at the waca.

Being a Stadiums site, maybe someone with a bit of spare time can put together a 'Top 10' list for annual stadium attendance - maybe use 2006 YTD figures. A 'one off' not to be repeated event like the Commonwealth Games could be excluded.

subiaco oval is likely to hold the most it has in a weekend, this coming week end with both the afl finals and the wafl prelimanry finals which would put the weekend capacity close to 100,000 spectators at subi.

The Top 10 order so far in 2006 (as at 14/9/06) from what I’ve collected would be:
1. MCG – clearly first, stats unconfirmed
2. Telstra Dome – clearly second, stats unconfirmed
3. Subiaco Oval – 1,059,184 total – 36,524 average (note: excluding pre season & any WAFL)
4. Suncorp Stadium – 819,189 total – 30,340 average
5. AAMI Stadium – 808,958 total – 35,172 average (note: excluding pre season & any SANFL)
6. Telstra Stadium – 777,514 total – 22,215 average
7. SCG – 533,047 total – 28,055 average
8. Aussie Stadium – 510,274 total – 22,186 average
9. Gabba – 469,247 total – 23,462 average
10. EnergyAustralia Stadium – 338,881 total – 17,836 average

The crowds that have been included are all regular season & finals AFL, NRL & Super 14 matches; all RL, RU & Socceroos representative matches; pre-season, regular season & finals A-League matches; and all forms of cricket matches.

The ones to miss out were (in order) Canberra Stadium (262,722 total – 13,827 average), Dairy Farmers Stadium (246,115 total – 18,932 average), Skilled Stadium (181,238 total – 22,655 average), Olympic Park (180,853 total – 10,638 average).

Didn’t have time to sort through all the MCG and Telstra Dome crowds.

Using the crowd figures from this site (which includes all events except for some smaller events/leagues, and no commonwealth games crowds - although I'm hoping to get that in if I ever get around to it!!)...

MCG - 2,015,197 total - 47,981 average
(plus about 1 million for the Commonwealth Games)

Telstra Dome - 2,063,248 total - 33,278 average
(plus about 250,000 for the Commonwealth Games)

They really do stand out from the rest.

I believe the commie games attendance at the G was between 600-700k and with the AFL grand final (95k+) and Boxing Day test (300k?) comming up, the final figure should surpass 3 million

This has to be a record...
