I use to like watching them when they started but know i just don't care about the comp. The powers that be have screwed up a comp which was already looking stale with New Zealand,South Africa and Australia playing each other too often and then the knackers add extra games.
But just turning on your tv and seeing rows of emptey seats for a game between once proud Rugby rivals the Springboks v All Blacks is showing that there is a big problem happing in SH Rugby.I really think that playing each other every 5 years on proper tours is the way forward.IRB,SANZAR and Sky have f***ed things up.

Nah, I like Tri-Nations...but I seem to get more interested when they actually play a game in Perth.

Its always good to beat the Seth Afrikans

I think it was a mistake expanding the number of games you play against THE SAME TEAMS! It would have made more sense to organise more tours from different countries instead of serving up more of the same.

what about introducing the "pacific islands" & argentina and playing it on a home & away basis like the european 6 nations, ie aussies play NZ @ home 1 year then the fixture is reversed the next year?????

Of course Argentina and the Pacific Islanders should have entered into a Five Nations competition. But uncle Rupert doesn't have any interests in either of those places and it would have meant SANZAR (or SANZAARPI) splitting the money five ways. Too much self interest on both counts for that to happen.

They could always go back to two matches against each country and put more players into the local comps.

Well i can not see it changing for the next 4 years but i think the only good thing is that the Currie Cup and the NPC are better then normal.Plus i think it's an ideal time for the heads of international RL to try and push Internationals tests in the Pacific Island's since they are getting ignored and shitted on by sanzar, the irb and New Zealand.

God, you're stupid Jeff. That would be a sensible thing to do. The ARU doesn't try to strike the right balance of marquee and staple games. they want bigger, bigger, bigger, more, more, more until Rugby explodes like Monsieur Creossote in the Meaning of Life.

I know this is pie in the sky - but I think they should scrap S14. Hold NPC, Aussie National Comp, Currie Cup simultaneously alongside some early season tests vs touring European nations; follow it up with a finals series featuring say...the top 3 teams from each (to get the SANZAR provincial championship) then follow it up with proper international tours. Hold a 5 nations comp (with argies, Pacific Islands) every 4 years (2009, 2013, etc). More logical, more intense, keep things like the Bledisloe cup very keenly anticipated (like the Lions tours, the Ashes etc). At the moment they are killing the goose i think and Once South America gets their pro comp up and running you could include the champion of that in the finals series.

But why scrap the super14 teams. Are crowds not good for inter-australian games??
are Australia not just 2 teams short of having a team in all the major states and then having the possibility of playing a 6-team national championship following the sheffield shield format.10 games and a final.
The top teams then qualify for play-off games with NZ/SAF through that competition.

The tri-nations seems ridiculous. To water down your main events like that is incredibly short-sighted.
The 6N get massive coverage in Britain, far more than the sport of rugby deserves, simply because its such a big event, and most people following the games will not pay atention to any other rugby all season. If they expanded to play twice, games wouldnt be the major event they are and millions would probably just forget about it.

I would think a SH 5 nations could work
3N + Fiji + pacific Islanders
Fiji are big enough to go it alone, they have a 1 million population. NZ is only 4 times bigger. India play cricket with NZ despite being 300 times bigger.
Its not about money. Fiji could become a very marketable team in the long run. It seems to be about short or long termism

Rugby should return to a 'tour' rather than a 'comp' culture.
