In terms of the actual sport, NFL and NCAA football.

Hmm, I will have to do some thinking before my vote goes in...

Is that NCAA option football specifically or does that include all NCAA sports?

Well in that case NCAA takes it easy.

No teams moving every few years (it seems), no bandwagoners, a variety of sports and teams, players playing for the love of the sport (generally) rather than for the money/fame.

You've gotta love College sports.

Actaully, I have found one example of a college that has moved :P Wake Forest University in the Atlantic Coast Conference is one of the four big "tobacco road" colleges (basketball powerhouses from North Carolina). It was founded in Wake Forest, North Carolina in 1843 moved a couple of hundred miles across NC to Winston-Salem in 1956. I think that's about as close to a team moving as possible. Alternatively, some teams can be practically killed off by the NCAA for serious violations of the governing body's rules.

How big is NASCAR in the States? With my limited knowledge I reckon it would be right up there.

NCAA football
NFL
MLB

I dont rate basketball or ice hockey at all.

MLB Baseball would probably be my number 1 if cricket didnt exist, as I am sure I would know far more about it.

They have spent fortunes on REDUCING capacities and that has increased attendances to even more staggering levels.
Something to learn from for all those who believe that any game selling out immediately warrants capacity expansions

Tonight I got told based on 2003 figures it goes like this for the pro sports.

NFL
NASCAR
MLB
NBA
NHL
MLS

I'm not sure where NCAA would fit into the mix.

Depends how you judge it. By total attendance NCAA football is well ahead of the NFL, well behind the MLB (remember the disparity in games played). By average attendances, the NFL is higher but largely because there are so many piddly little programs in the NCAA that pull the average way down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_league_attendances

If the Southeastern Conference and Big 10 were football leagues unto themselves (which they kind of are) they'd be the two highes pulling leagues in the world. See p7 of this NCAA list. In fact read the whole thing.
http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/atte ... ndance.pdf

It's hard to judge by TV audiences, because nationally televsied games are so much rarer for all US sports than in Australia or the UK.

I have a hunch that NCAA football would sit in the No.2 or 3 spot. NCAA Basketball would be below the NHL and a long way ahead of the MLS. But I'm only guesing.
