I would be interested to know people's views on the recently begun Wembley redevelopment. While it is a shame that such a historic stadium has to be torn down, the plans for the new stadium look spectacular. Its also great about the involvement of Multiplex, an Australian company in the redevelopment.

Those famous towers will be missed by sports fans around the world, myself included. Anyone I have spoken to who has been to Wembley said that the place was showing its age.

It's a shame they couldn't have made a bigger effort to preserve the facade of the place, because of its heritage. But the new stadium will be brilliant.

I'll be at the first Challenge Cup final they play at the new Wembley. And the first Kangaroo-Lions Test.

Sorry to say this but the grand old lady was showing her age and it was time to go. The Twin Towers will be missed but it was impossible to save them.

Even better Multiplex are Western Australia, Wembley was a great venue but they really needed a brand new venue, The whole exercise has been a debacle first not enough money, then this then that they should have done more work deciding on the stadium before having a press release it gave negative publicity on this famous venue and so really the English Football Association should have handled the redevelopment alot better

Lets hope the venue brings in the smae atmosphere that the old one created.

Wembley the home of Soccer :!:

The stadium is clearly going to be fantastic and clearly the best football stadium in the world. But the financing certainly was a prolonged mess, then again it really is expensive, about 2 billion aus dollars, last I heard,

what i really like about the design, is that it will have a retractable roof, but not over the pitch!
The roof of the sunny side of the stadium will be retractable so there is cover in the rain, but not the annoying half-sun- half- shade situation on a sunny day. This is fan friendly, unlike retractable roofs over the ground, which is more one of those things arcitects want to impress other arcitects, hardly needed anywhere outside countries with extreme climates

Just having a quick peek at the Wembley website...

Topping Out ceremony on 1st September 2004 - Fireworks burst over the 133m high Wembley Stadium Arch to celebrate the Stadium reaching its full height and the start of England's World Cup 2006 qualifying campaign:

This picture shows the concourses and terraces on the south side under construction. In the red fabrication sheds the main perimeter roof truss is under construction. This roof truss will form an important role in supporting the 11 acre roof.
