Broome's not that overly big. Also fluctuates considerably with the tourist seasons. It used to be the little fish to big brother derby. now that's been reversed, because Derby is on the marshes, and with no tourist attractions and the fact that it is no longer an important port as it once was, things are dying out up there.

Mandurah 58,000 - 180,000 in 30 years.

So lets hope Rushton Park becomes a 15,000 seat venue :)

Rockingham is about 90,000 - 200,000 in 30 years.

and im in the middle...it seems my suburb will just be urban sprawl

Hopefully they keep alot of it bush...but the rate of development is just going ballistic...display homes are being closed because houses are being built at astronomical levels.

Like I said if your a bricklayer in another state come to WA you will get as much money as a doctor...paying $1 per brick layed.

The West australian reported that we had already gone over the 2 million mark...although we have a census next year can not wait...love reading the abs site and the Nazi James would bring it up a lot.

Derby has a Detention centre, hmm and is hot...what else

FFS Egan, will you stop pulling this one out as if it's already happened? It's not a prediction, it's a projection. And sorry, but if you actually saw the process of making a population projection, you'd be laughing at the results as much as I do.

Signing off from Adelaide, the city projected to have a population of 1.5 million today (back in the 70's). Any thoughts from forum members in Sydney, the city once projected to have a population of 2 million by the 1980's?

Someone put a wrong figure up...living here for 10 years in the region...its hard to see when the influx will stop...this prediction looks extremely conservative and accurate.

Whatever happens Mandurah's growth rates have not slowed down in 10 years and with the Train Station...expect it to continue.

Ill talk to you in 30 years time to see whether you were right...but the crucial factor is whether they can get enough jobs for the influx of people...which at present is a concern. The train may allieviate this though...but with the massive development going on without a train service (much of the northern suburbs development happened with the train line extension) I reckon it wont be too long till the densities and population gets even heavier...unless all the retirees die at once.

But the planning student may be right... it's just since I have lived here our population has gone up by a third and the city has doubled in size.

 Anyone else reminded of the US West in the late 19th Century? Prosperity is all about the Iron Horses. Or maybe the 50s newsreels in the Simpsons about Springfield being a city on the grow?

We have the public transport system of 2m city. At least various NSW govts have had the courage to stick to those predictions when planning Sydney's urban development
