Ahh I love South African Stadiums, it will be my journey outside of Australia next.

I have fallen in love with Newlands, it looks fantastic without people in it.

Ellis Park is just as magnificent.

2010 World Cup visiting South Africa is assured now, I have to see these bloody crackers of a stadium...it makes some of our stadiums second rate in my opinion.

The Wanderers is quality too.

I wouldn't mind following the NZ Cricket team around SAfrica, at least the cricket supporters are less rabid (kidding).

Thats why I want a security guard with me when I go...they have Hate Australia in every sport they are in Clubs, because of us giving days of national mourning :)

Never forget listening on the radio the last 5 overs of the innings...i had woken up and listened to the broadcast...it gave me a special cricket moment and a half :)

You'd have to pay the security guard to be your bodyguard Egan. As personal bodyguards, we don't come cheap.

From memory Egan used to not like RSA stadia. Especially the cricket ones. "Too small" he'd say. I recall a Cricket World Cup thread where this was going on.

I was a sleep deprived idiotic zombie that night...so the enthusiasm is not their as it was that night.

I am a person that can make myself go on a high, with sugar or tiredness, thus it delivers all sorts of crap...I do apologise

Anyways I will research the "Do not like South African Stadiums part"

Quotes would have been nice Mr Jeffles.

It's pretty hard not to like South African stadiums. It's just the soccer stadiums are bloody terrible. The only half decent one is the FNB Stadium south of Jo'Burg. The rest are terribly maintained, health hazards, have the bare minium of facilities, and disabled access is non existent. Lighting is terrible, the pitches are never up to scratch, and I wouldn't dare sit underneath any of the roofs.

You hardly hear about South African football (soccer) stadiums. I wonder why? I have my theories as to why but the only one that is ever featured is the ground in Jo'Burg that has the lights suspended above the playing surface. What are some of the other grounds? Are they really that bad? I could sort of imagine they would be for some reason. I take it the venues for WC2010 will be primarily the rugby grounds and new facilities.

Can't say I know much about SA soccer grounds either and the only one I know off the top of my head is the same one HD mentioned, the one they used for the African Nations Cup Final when Mandella was pres. That seemed to be a rectangular version of Waverley.

Its also my impression that the Rugby grounds are of much higher quality (unsurprisingly due to historic race/sport relations). Ellis Park was used for a Jo'burg derby in the soccer when the crush disaster happened a couple of years ago. The match was switched from whatever other ground would have been used because of EP's superior size.
