Sounds like the big wigs down at MES have been taking notes from the Queensland (sic) Lions. :x

Egan, just do as I'm going to do... call them by what you want. Make a big, big banner with "PERTH Glory" emblazoned across it. Get everyone in the shed to do the same. They'll soon get the message.

Is it just me, but...

Why is there such a push to have these A-League clubs represent their state?

We've got a state league team from Richlands that reckons it speaks for all Queenslanders when it can't even unite the Brisbane soccer community and Melbourne adopting the moniker "Victory" because it's some catchy play on the state's name... and now Perth are following suit. :x

I don't know about the Asian or American leagues, but in Europe clubs represent a town or city NOT a region or province or state. Maybe I'm being too Euro-centric, but I feel that it is the football 'way' of doing things! How can a state be a club!

In Australia, state teams have typically been representative sides NOT clubs!

And what will happen when Townsville, for example, joins the league?

Next thing we know the Queensland (sic) Lions will announce they're going to play in maroon shirts!

Yes but in all respects...you can, the name u make up has no history...Perth Glory has aplenty.

I will be literally devastated if this happens...watch out forum...Ill be one angry man if they change the logo on the 4th...or u may see me on the Tv booing them announcing a name change at the official launch...or walking out...we need a mass exodus if they announce the name as Western Glory.

I don't have a problem with 'regional' clubs (Once Caldes, last season's South American club champion, are named after a Colombian region [Caldes]), but other than that I agree with you.

Egan i have heard that they are going to be making a slight change to the Logo just to make it a bit more modern... Dont ask me why they are doing this as it loks fine as it is.

With the name change i am happy with it changing into Perth Glory Football Club but Western Glory What kinda name is that   :x . We need to keep atleast some part of our sucess in the NSL and keeping the name would be the way to go and thnk if Glory make the WCC all the other clubs and supporters at the games wont know where Western Glory come from but with the name Perth Glory everyone will know that we come from Perth Western Australia :D

Please Mr Tana and Co dont change the name.

I know a few people of the gloryboys.net forum have emailed Nick Tana or Jeff Dennis about the name change to express their disconcern and hopefully if we all email them it will change their minds and Perth Glory can stay in our hearts forever :D

Referendum on shopping hours. WTF???

As for daylight saving. Vote yes for the sake of reasonable cricket fixture times.

Its a laugh, a few months ago our election was about to be decided on shopping hours

Colin Barnett changed his mind from supporting changes to rejecting them, its like Pokies machine, a political hotbed in Western Australia...despite Greenies being a big vote...the Iraqi War does not hurt the Liberal Party...u would find protests in other parts of the country much larger then here.

Mr Harvey Norman is going spastic and has legal challenges against him because he opened all his stores on a sunday ages ago.

So now we are having a referendum on whether we support 7 days a week shopping hours or not...currently only small business's are allowed to open on a sunday...eg Harvey Norman, Woolworths and co are not allowed to open.

No for the sake that we piss the other side of the country off...and EPL GAMES...I love our time zone its nearly perfect always...eg Socceroos games have been perfect to watch a full game before going to work etc.

Im very happy that the One Day game between Pakistan and Australia is a day night match...starting at 2:30pm WA times...have fun watching the cricket till midnight

How about the rest of Australia not watch it then. Then the ACB might think "well if nobody watches Perth games we won't give them any".

That'll sure make the WACA a brighter white elephant.

Then you'll bitch and cry about that and threaten to become your own country. The idea has merit. Culturally you're so much different, shopping on Sunday is a sin.

They had an article with all these poms coming out in the past year.

Still 2/3 of all immigrants to perth are fair skinned poms...and nearly every suburb near me had over 25% of UK born people.

They also said that Perth was so unique in that it was more british orientated and we had suffered without the greeks of Melbourne and the greater degree of other nationalities in other states.

Which is a pity...

The ACB schedule the games...not the WACA

South Australia, Tasmania will go bankrupt if we leave the federation...we dont want to do that to them.

Nah our ecomomy is too strong and we dont have enough skilled workers in our state to succeed just at this moment...we need alot more immigrants to come in...its just spiralling out of control...labour shortages in the north of the state are becoming critical....having to import them from other nations.

Of course our major city is over 2000 kms away...people identify as an us against them...which the premier constantly does...its us against the rest...fighting for our state is his words he uses.

Yeah, and an article in the AFR said the same thing about recent migration to SA. But I guess your local WA rag wanted to play the "we're so much different in WA" routine to make you feel warm and fuzzy.

As for your comments about british orientation, well, if you'd been to Adelaide then you'd know how stupid that comment is. And the greeks comment is racist as all hell.

Mate never tried to come across racist!

I was saying it more as endearment...that their culture has been more shaped by other influences.

Yeah I was just talking about culture that u said was different...and I said the West reported this...yes it is the most patriotical newspaper in the country...but sorry if it did indedd sound racist.

Well it seems both cities have the downfall of mass british migration :(

I do see it as a negative...good to see some migrants from West Africa arrive in Perth today, refugees.

Come on Yob, he didn't mean to sound racist. It's not his fault that everybody who sucks falls into the same race  And I've heard you have a go at them before

Get with the 21st Century and open on a Sunday. HELLO - PENALTY RATES!!!

BTW, Harvey Norman was formed out of a partnership between Gerry Harvey and Ian Norman. Mr Norman has since pulled out I think but the name remains.

The "British Orientation" of Perth was a factor I used to argue that Perth Glory were an "ethnic" soccer club - a UK ethnicity that just happens to be the majority and so the Glory can argue for "absolution" against accusations of pandering to ethnics that other clubs faced.

Yet mate u made that assumption without going to a Glory match.

you never sat with me when i heard italians, croations each supporting the main frame Glory side.

Yes they have alot of Scottish and British fans, but so did Northern Spirit...but they also appealed to the non-ethnics.

Mate i told my mates off when ever they were being racist...never in a million years would I have a prejudice against another race...am extremely sorry if I was being racist in any way, but I didnt mean to come across like that at all.
