Geez, if anyone wanted to know why State governments want to merge local councils, this muppet is a perfect example. No idea about facts and no idea about how to spend money wisely.
There is a genuine need to upgrade the back-of-house stuff; there are no kitchens on-site, there are inadequate corporate spaces and there's not a single large function space in the place. There's no opportunity to create a proper 'Chairman's Lounge' or anything of the like, they can't host functions in the stadium, they can't feed people properly when they have them in boxes.
Add to that the fact that the rooves are woeful, there are insufficient food and beverage outlets for crowds over half-capacity and there are insufficient bathrooms...
There's merit to making the place better, I'm just not sure about bigger.

It was built to a price. It was only $30m initially.
Newcastle Stadium has received somewhere north of $70 million since Gosford stadium was built, and there have been squillions thrown at other grounds in NSW since (Kogarah a couple of times, Parra, Wollongong, Blacktown for god knows what reason, the Showground, Penrith...), which is why I think the Central Coast is sticking out its hand.
If you're going to host a reasonably classy function at the venue (which you can't do at either venue at present) then do you really want to be bringing food across the road on trolleys?

It's the Central Coast. What's this "classy function" you talk about?
If they could continue the top tier around the northern end and include proper catering and function rooms there with connections to the boxes on the east and west they could increase capacity to about 25k or so and get the corporate service they need. Might be able to do it for the $30m that is mentioned.
the top tier being extended behind the northern end is totally not going to happen due to a train line being behind there, unless if they do a Newcastle.................................. oh crap I just gave the liberals development mates an idea that they will like
The train line only affects the NW corner. There is plenty of room to extend the rest of the northern end with a link across to the western stand directly above the existing ground level concourse.
