Well that's going to sh*t the Glory. Standing room is the only area they can come close to filling nowadays.
$82 million doesn't get you much anymore does it?

Agree with Rob, thought $82 mil would stretch a little further than that...
Is there a render of the final 25k project?

As I predicted, another Subi oval debacle in the making. Rather than a bold design which embraces the future, a make do upgrade that pleases no one. I can't see much improvement for corporate facilities - maybe it's just the renders, if there isn't, I can't see the Force being happy with it. Maybe good for 10 years.

Because there's an even crappier stand on the other side and they only have the money to replace one of them.yob wrote:Why did they leave that crappy old stand on the other wing?

Behind the eastern stand, a long row of food, beverage and toilet “pods” will house catering services and provide for any resulting gastric reaction.

Re: Behold the new Perth Oval
$80m for that?!?! Doesn't look much more than what happened with WIN Stadium in Wollongong.
Are construction costs that much more in Perth, or is everyone just on the take?

If you look closely they are talking about FOTS, not the shed. I predict the shed will remain as it is., which will help Glory retain the atmosphere in the ground.Rob wrote:Well that's going to sh*t the Glory. Standing room is the only area they can come close to filling nowadays.

Oh, and I'll believe it when I see construction equipment arrive at the ground...WA has a recent bad habit of talking the talk on Stadia then balking when it comes to actually building them.

Latest from News.com
Perth Glory owner Tony Sage is considering building a new home for the club, as the impasse over hiring costs at nib Stadium - which is currently being redeveloped - shows no sign of being resolved. Sage is furious that the stadium deal - signed by Football Federation Australia during their ownership of the Glory, and which rolled over into Sage's era - has not been renegotiated, especially to take into account the reduced capacity, which he says is costing him thousands of dollars.
Sage says he has been trying to renegotiate the deal for three years, but has received no help from the Western Australia government, the owners of the venue. Instead, they insist it is a matter between Sage and the stadium management company, Allia Holdings, headed by ex-Glory owner Nick Tana.
"Every home game costs me personally between $30,000 and $60,000," Sage said. "The basic hiring fee is fine, but there are so many add-ons for providing services that other venues provide automatically - we have to pay for security, cleaning, for televisions in the media area, insurance, parking, emergency services, and big screens that costs us $22,000. "We even get charged $4,000 for the security staff radios."
Because of the extra costs, the Glory would need gates of 13,500 to break even at home matches, which is impossible with a capacity pegged at below 10,000. Sage estimates the club will lose between $1.5 million and $1.7 million this season, of which $1.2 million will be due to costs incurred by hiring the stadium.
He says the long-term option may be to build Glory their own home, and they are already some way down the track. "We’ve found a site, and it would cost us between $5 million and $10 million to get it up to scratch," Sage said. "Within six months, we’ll reveal where it is - but it wouldn’t be ready for two to three years. It would have a maximum capacity of 12,000, and we’d take big games to nib. "Pattersons Stadium is another option - if I'm going to lose the same amount of money at both venues, I’d rather play at Subi, to send a message."

Re: Behold the new Perth Oval
LOL.....$5-10 million to get a new site up to scratch.
What f***ing city does he think he lives in? The Rushton Park development cost more than that, and that paid for this only:
The NIB stadium revelopment, which really aint that good, is costing $100 million. Of which Sage, and the Glory, is contributing precisely f**k all to.
Bottom line is that $1.2 million a year in stadium expenses is downright cheap. Stop your goddamn whinging Tony.

Re: Behold the new Perth Oval
He's a friend of Ben Elias. Says it all really.
It'll be Scaffold FC if he ever moves away from nib.
He's been at this talk for a while, possibly to deflect away from his team's ongoing performances and his staff's failure to grow the Glory brand.
The A-League is having a monster start to the year and the new facility, although damn expensive, will provide his club more chances to make money of the games.

Re: Behold the new Perth Oval
A very quick about turn from the Glory public relations department me thinks.
From WA Today
Relief for Glory crowds as new stand opens at nib Stadium
Perth Glory's crowd cap at the under-construction nib Stadium will lift to more than 11,100 from this weekend, with work now complete on the ground's new southern stand.
The previous 9500-strong cap - a result of the $95 million redevelopment of the stadium - had attracted the ire of Glory owner Tony Sage, who had to move the club's A-League opener against Brisbane to Patersons Stadium in Subiaco.
But the government on Wednesday announced the completion of the southern stand ahead of schedule would allow an extra 1679 fans in for Sunday's clash with the Western Sydney Wanderers and their marquee star Emile Heskey.
"Perth Glory is delighted with the new [southern stand]," Perth Glory chief executive Paul Kelly said.
"The increased capacity now allows those fans who could not attend previous games the chance to see Perth Glory live."
The first stage of the redevelopment is due to be completed in March. Eventually nib Stadium, which is also the home of rugby union's Western Force, will be able to take 20,500 spectators.

glory are hosting WSW, but Heskey plays for Newcastle. Shinji Ono is the WSW marquee signing. A great player for sure but not with the same brand awareness as Heskey in Perth's ex-pat Pomgolian community.
