Re: Perth's new stadium and unicorns
Despite a final design and major decisions on technology and facilities yet to be made, Mr Barnett has insisted the total cost of the stadium and surrounding facilities would not exceed the $700 million pricetag announced in June.
But today he appeared to waiver, saying the stadium would cost "at least" $700 million.
"I am [confident] at this point [that the budget will not blow out] but we are yet to design this stadium, so no one can put a price on it until it's designed," Mr Barnett said.
"I said $700 million because I had to give you an answer.
"$700 million is the figure that was identified during the Langoulant taskforce in 2007. That's the figure we're working on."
WA will you never learn

He's learned a bit in politics - namely that voters simply don't care about cost blowouts. They identify it with the institution of government, not the government of the day.

He's right. We care mainly about the headline number. As long as they say it with authority.

Re: Perth's new stadium and unicorns
... do they have an option? The State Government is set to hire a "stakeholder management" consultant to help convince WA's major sporting codes to buy into its $1 billion stadium project.
....so everyone but the Glory....why are they proposing a stakeholder engagement strategy with the WACA.....just to let them know they will take all the T20 and one day games....and some testsThe sport bodies include the WA Football Commission, West Coast, Fremantle Dockers, AFL, WACA, Cricket Australia and Rugby WA.
...money well spent WA...how about you build it first, then worry about your hypePPR will also be responsible for liaising with government departments and the public.
Tender documents reveal the firm will be required to "create stakeholder 'buy-in' and support for the project, while promoting the Department of Sport and Recreation's key function needs for the stadium".
The move is part of a flurry of activity around the stadium project that kicked off in earnest when the Government announced its precise location on the Burswood peninsula in December.

what's the story with Perry lakes? I drove past there today and everything apart from the main stand and gate, has been flattened and houses are beginning to go up. I thought the stand was going to go as well?

Re: Perth's new stadium and unicorns
[sarcasm]There are only two reasons to put a roof on a Perth Stadium.
1. To make it even more prohibitively expensive so the government can back out.
2. Because the weather's sh*t.[/sarcasm]
