Anyone else think this Geelong team is seriously underappreciated? 3 premierships in five years and another Grand Final too. You also have to pay tribute to how they've managed to regenerate following th loss of some players.

And a change in coach doesn't seem to have affected the team either. Very impressive.

I just think they get overlooked by the media a fair bit. Loads of people spoke about Collingwood's past two years. Geelong have got a similar win percentage and managed it over five!

maybe they should get their own appreciation thread - it could even be given 'official' status

For me the better story is Chris Scott V Bomber. Chris won a premiership without GAJ and actually played youngsters throughout the seson. Bomber wasn't interested in new talent. He wanted to coach the best and be the best. He thought he couldn't win a premiership without Ablett so he walked, citing burnout. I'll burn out for half a mill per year no worries.

Injuries to Collingwood at the wrong time cost Collingwood the flag. Heath Shaw getting rubbed out over a silly bet didn't help either.

And you wanna know why Geelong won on the day? Podsiadley's injury that's why. He was getting well beaten and Scott would have persisted with him. When Pods got injured, Scott was forced to play Bartel up forward and that changed the game. In the end, Geelong was better off without Pods. When he went off, Geelong outplayed us.

^^ The reason why they won is because... they had injuries. FM that's a new one.

Well as crazy as that sounds, it's spot on. When the Pod hurt his shoulder, Collingwood was 3 goals up. We were starting to get on a roll after an arm wrestle. Both teams had their fair share of inside 50s, the difference was, the pies were taking marks inside 50, Geelong wasn't because pod wasn't getting his hands on the ball. He went down and that forced a reshuffle, a reshuffle that Scott would not have made if not for the injury. From that point the game turned and the rest is history. Every now and again a negative can actually be a positive, this is one of those occassions.

To get official status they need to win 4 premierships in a row. Collingwood's invincibles 4 in a row is the greatest dynasty in history, fact. The fact that it has only been achieved once shows it is almost impossible to achieve. Yet Collingwood did it. I know it was in a different era and all that, but you can't do any more than dominate your own era. If you could bring that team into this day and age and apply them to today's training, fitness, technology and insights into the game, they would still be successful. Players like Coventry and the Colliers would have been superstars. But because the 4 in a row happened so long ago, it gets overlooked by ignoramuses such as yourself. No official thread for Geelong.

Just to remind you that Port Adelaide won 6 in a row in the 50's..........but I would be the only person on this site who would join the PAFC Official Appreciation Society!

Very good point. Big credit to the Geelong board who looked at Fremantle and said, "there's a winner in there."
