Wasn't Egan referring to 2000-2005?

Probably yes ,got it wrong as usual ,as my statement was referring to a much earlier period - Commonwealth Games ,Subiaco three tier stand and major upgrade and WACA as a football ground .

The indoor arena came afterwards and it has more of a non-sports function than any replacement for the current Subiaco.

I only mentioned the indoor arena as an example of sports being gifted a $500 million facility without the public batting an eyelid .

In any event, governments of different persuasions appear to have used the stadium as a point of difference and as a talking point for attackig one another.

Not really .Otherwise we might have had more action .

It happened in SA as well, but has died down since pen was put to paper. Sports fans of WA will wait for the same.

Didn't it die down because they resolved the issue in SA and here in WA we've finally been promised a new football stadium .

This is what happened in the 2011 finals series.

Collingwood beat West Coast, Geelong beat Hawthorn. West Coast won their second round final and a whole bunch of nonces started crapping on about how Perth was taking over the world via Singapore because it was cheaper that way, then they all shut up when they lost the prelim. Sydney choked the life out of the game against St Kilda and Nick Riewoldt tear'd it up after the siren. Geelong beat Hawthorn in the grand final.

Where were you on 9/11........it's like the JFK question. I was in Melbourne then & had just finished watching my favorite footy programme. Can't remember what it was called, but think it was on HSV7

Probably Talking Footy. I would have been watching that as well, when I should have been studying more than likely. Final year of uni.

Good win by the Baggers today, although getting up at 4:25 am for the rugby, then having that on the TV whilst streaming the footy has left me in need of a nap.

Ah, yes, Talking Footy. Gr8 show.
I tipped all 4 winners this w/e, but didn't expect the games to be like they were.
And excellent crowds..........how about that 90,000 today!

There has been a lot of comment from Gallop about NRL attendances & TV ratings, with an oblique ref to the AFL. Just to put it into perspective - not only was Sunday's final a record attendance, but 1.5 mill watched Friday night's game.....the highest for the season. And the W/E total viewing was 5.1 mill.

AFL hard man Campbell Brown and up to three Gold Coast Suns teammates have been arrested in Thailand after a punch-up reportedly involving a local policeman.

Brown and a teen teammate, Maverick Weller, were involved in a scuffle with at least two other people on the full-moon party island of Ko Phangan, The Australian newspaper reported.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to West Coast for making my night last night. I never get tired of seeing Carltank lose a close and tense final and seeing their fans in tears. This was their third close loss in a final under Ratten and it just gets better and better. The look on the faces of that collective group of scum at Whore Park last night was awesome to see. The look on Judd's face when he turned the ball over and it resulted in a goal made me want to take my wife upstairs and shag her. The look of distraught on the Carltank players' faces after the final siren had me skipping around my living room. Now I'm not a sadistic person, but I do enjoy seeing fail delivered to those who have it coming to them. And nobody deserves continued failure more than that salary cap rorting, tanking, piece of sh*t club. 16 years without a flag and counting. f**k you Carltank, f**k you very much.

I continue to be surprised by the coaching appointments. Now McCartney to Bulldogs.
