Gold Coast Utd v Adelaide Utd venue change

Gold Coast United’s scheduled fixture against Adelaide United on Friday 11 November has been switched from Skilled Park to Hindmarsh Stadium.

The decision to swap venues for the round six game was taken after positive discussions between the two clubs resulted in an agreement being drawn up that satisfied both parties and FFA.

With Gold Coast United’s new ticketing initiatives of $5.00 for children and $20.00 for adults requiring heavy subsidies, the decision to move the Adelaide fixture will assist in alleviating some of the associated costs, said Gold Coast CEO Clive Mensink.

“This is not a decision that we have taken lightly, but we wanted to push ahead with the new ticketing initiatives and at the same time be financially responsible towards the club’s bottom line,” Mr Mensink said.

“We had some very positive discussions with Adelaide United who are in one of the best positions to be responsive to such an agreement due to their stadium arrangements at Hindmarsh.

“Our members have already been informed and will be compensated for the loss of this match from our home schedule.

“We have offered them additional tickets to other fixtures, including the M1 derby against Brisbane Roar on October 21st, along with some other benefits.

“We have traditionally done well at Hindmarsh in the past and believe we have a very good chance of continuing that good run of form,” he said.

United announce $5 tickets for children

A new ticketing initiative has been announced by Gold Coast United that will make attending Hyundai A-League matches at Skilled Park more affordable than ever.

In the Eastern Stand adults will be able to purchase general admission tickets for only $20.00 with children’s tickets just $5.00 (children under 14-years-old).

The $5.00 kid’s ticket also extends to all other categories around Skilled Park, making the game even more accessible to Gold Coast youngsters who want to watch their local team in the country’s top football competition.

“It’s apparent and there is evidence wherever you look that the Gold Coast region is still suffering from the effects of the financial crisis and there are families who are doing it tough,” said Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink.

“The entertainment dollar is harder to find and we wanted to provide an opportunity for everyone to come along and support their local team in the Hyundai A-League.

“We have a fantastic group of players this year and we are confident of another successful season. We want as many people as possible to be able to watch the team, and of course the players will benefit by having more support behind them at Skilled Park.

“The $5.00 children’s ticket is representative of our increased links with the grassroots of football on the Gold Coast and is great value. It provides an opportunity for all young football fans to come and watch their local heroes, along with helping us to establish a broader fan base for the future.

“Naturally, we want to encourage as many people as possible to support this initiative, support their club and support the game,” he said.

United skipper Michael Thwaite said he was thrilled with the ticketing initiative and looked forward to the football community throwing their support behind the team from day one of the new season.

“The Gold Coast community can help the team get off to a great start against Wellington Phoenix if they get behind us in numbers by taking advantage of these new ticket prices,” he said.

“The new season is coming up fast, we have a lot of new faces in the squad and it would be fantastic to see a lot of new faces in the crowd as well.

“Our fans have always been brilliant and for anyone who has not been to a match before this is a great incentive to start coming along to Skilled Park and enjoying some terrific football action,” he said.
