'Asia's Wayne Rooney' breaks North Korea's wall of silence
June 9, 2010 - 9:00AM

Lifting the veil of secrecy that has cloaked North Korea since their arrival at the World Cup, striker Jong Tae-se has predicted a shock victory over Brazil.

North Korea, making their first appearance at the World Cup finals since 1966, have cancelled media conferences in South Africa and expelled journalists hoping to catch a glimpse of the mystery men at training.

However, Jong, dubbed "Asia's Wayne Rooney", looked the world's media squarely in the eye on Tuesday and said North Korea had nothing to fear from Group G opponents Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast.

"The game will be very difficult for us but we will win against Brazil," Jong said, standing with his shoulders back and his chest puffed out proudly.

I'm sure the Pyongyang Daily News will report a win over Brazil.

North Koreans seem almost as insular as Melbournians

What will it take to get a NK/SK game at the WC?

They are both coming from the opposite ends of the draw, Semi Final at the earliest and one of them would have to top a group, otherwise its the final. And how's this for bad luck, the group of death (Group G IMO) who ever comes second after being in that group, will then most likely front up to Spain and follow it up with a game against Italy, then if they can make it to the Semi Final, its likely to be Argentina or Germany.

I'm betting on them getting a draw against Portugal, and for them to perform the most brutal tackle on Ronaldo. $16 million dollar/season capitalist pig!

Read a clip of North Korea's press conference.

"Who picks the team, you or the President" - "Next question, we asked you to not ask any political questions"

LOL

Yet another reason why Kim Jong-Il may just be the most talented person on the planet.

After their World Cup loss to Brazil, North Korea’s coach may need to call up the country’s Supreme Leader for some advice. Good thing Jong-Il invented those invisible phones.

From ESPN:

“Kim Jong-Su, the general secretary of the North Korean FA, has said the Dear Leader gave ‘in-depth guidance’ on how to develop the game in the country and the coach himself has claimed he received regular tactical advice during matches, apparently using mobile phones that are not visible to the naked eye.”

Jong-Il, a man of many talents, is said to have developed the technology himself. Before you laugh in disbelief, remember this is the man who scored 38 under par in his first-ever game of golf — with five holes in one — making him the greatest golfer of all-time. He’s got skills.

No word yet whether North Korea also has an invisible vuvuzela in the works

It's on youtube, offcourse.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1kusL894tM

The strange thing is that he was the only one crying, and yet he's the only one who's not actually North Korean. He's Japanese born and bred to South Korean parents, but attended a North Korean funded school in Japan so he chose to play for them... he's a real enigma.
