Adelaide Airport one of the best

STUART INNES, TOURISM WRITER

March 13, 2007 01:50pm

Adelaide Airport is one of the best in the world, according to official awards announced in Dubai overnight.

The airport, featuring a $260 million multi-purpose passenger terminal called T1, was a close second in the awards for airports handling 5 million to 15 million passengers a year.

Twenty-three airports were nominated in that category, won by Central Japan Airport.

The Airports Council International awards for service quality recognise staff courtesy, flight information and security arrangements, speed of baggage delivery and even the availability of baggage trolleys.

''The award is a credit to our staff, our airline customers and all involved in the day to day operations of T1,'' Adelaide Airport Ltd managing director Phil Baker said from Dubai today.

''It also provides a tremendous boost for the region as a whole by putting the name `Adelaide' on the lips of major airlines.''

The award comes after independent surveys of passengers.

Adelaide Airport rated in the top 10 airports world-wide for ambience and ``a feeling of being safe and secure.''

Best airport worldwide was won by Seoul Incheon International Airport in South Korea.

Adelaide Airport was named Australia's best capital city airport by the Australian Airports Association last year.

All airports, everywhere in the world are identical. Fact.

Its funny because Dubai was closed for about 8 hours overnight because of a Bangladeshi plane having a minor incident

I was wondering if this was a thread for discussions whilst waiting in airports or for discussions about airports. I feel relieved now that I know the answer.

I've been to quite a few airports in my time.

For me the best in Australia are Adelaide and Melbourne. I may be a little biased with Melbourne, but for me it has everything you need of an airport and is easy to get around.

I've always had difficulty finding my way around Sydney Airport, that could be sue to the fact I don't use it that often.

Adelaide's new airport is a stunner, serves the city well. It's big, spacious and easy to navigate. Also gives a nice view of the city and the hills from the big windows.

For me Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris is the worst I have been too. Not sure whether it was the fact I was in a foreign country, but I just didn't like it.

The airport was very narrow and when lining up to check in, the lines were massive and there wasn't much room to line up. In fact we had to line up in the "walkway" and given it's narrowness it was an uncomfortable 20mins lining up as people squashed in and people tried to squeeze through. And as you know, the French aren't exactly known for their manners.

I request that in the interest of fair and balanced airport discussion you leave your personal bias and prejudices behind.

Wait you like Adelaide's new terminal?

Carry on.

Dulles river visual or die.

I've never had any trouble finding my way around Sydney Airport. I guess i've known it since it wasn't so big so i naturally think of it as small(ish) with extentions.

Ah, Sydney airport.

I had to help my grandmother through there when we travelled over for my sister's wedding. One of the airport staff assisted us with all her stupid old person machinery. This was at the time that Adelaide's (best) airport terminal was still closed due to the contaminated fuel line hoo-hah. I reckon I copped jokes for 20 straight minutes from the sydney airport guy, fucken brilliant.

'I heard the problem with the lines was they were snorting them'

'I heard planes can't get in to the airport because it's in a big hole'

etc etc

loved the guy

Frankfurt the worst, followed closely by Heathrow, which goes without saying.

My pet hate in an airport is when the domestic and international terminals are separate.

God it shits me!

"Shuttles to the domestic terminal operate every 32 minutes*"

*Or whatever time it takes for you to miss your domestic connection
