Bolt and the Boomers tonight but I have to go out with my girlfriend. Will be setting the VCR!

I've bagged Ch 7 a little bit but I must give credit to the gymnastics commentators and the diving commentators. They are good to listen to. Of course, I don't know much about either sport so I don't know if they are talking rubbish. Cheesie could enlighten us re; the gymnastics.
I can see a new horizon underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire

medal watch

G.britain 13/7/8 - 3rd
Australia 11/10/12 - 4th

we are starting to pull clear, plus we have 2 cycling finals later this morning so that should be another 2 in the bag, i doubt you'll catch us if we get to 15, what gold medal chances have you got left? and i don't think we'll be finished at 15 either, i reckon we'll nudge 20...

Was it Andrew Denton who wrote the song something like 'As long as we beat New Zealand..'.Maybe it should have been 'As long as we beat those Pommy Bastards'. It's almost unnatural for them to do so well. What dastardly deal did they make with the devil? Heaven forbid if they do well now, what will they be like in 2012?

Good to see their sports funding pay results. I remember saying a couple of years ago on this forum that it didn't seem to be producing much results. Now I'm proven wrong. It does hightlight though just how good the Australian system has been for the past few decades.

the BBC is awesome at the "red button" i've got it up now and i have a choice of 6 screens..

1. BBC ONE olympic coverage , which flits in and out of everything
2. live athletics
3. live triathlon
4. replay of the beach volley ball, mens 1/4s
5. team GB medals, which, as you can guess showing all our medals winners
6. day 9 news..

it's brilliant :D

My biggest complaint about Ch 7 is despite having 3 or 4 digital channels available to them, they make very little use of it. Case in point was the conflict between the AFL games and olympics on the weekend. I know its not all their fault. I think that Foxtel winged loud and hard about the free to air channels having this ability when Digital TV was being proposed and so there was some constraints put in place to placate them?

Thankfully SBS do a good job

I hate that too, but like you point out...it's not their fault.

Thanks to the Howard Govt sitting on their hands with regards to digital TV, no FTA network is allowed to have a second SD digital channel and, as far as I know, given the Olympics are on the Anti-Siphoning List they cannot be shown on the HD channel because that is not freely accessible to everyone.

Thankfully come January 1st next year the FTA networks are allowed a second SD digital channel and the strong rumour is that Ch 10 will turn their's into a sports channel. A 24hr sports channel on FTA TV...brilliant!!

This isn't meant the denigrate the efforts of "Team GB", they beaten us fair and square and it's embarrassing. But, why are they 'Great Britain'?

IMO they should represent their individual countries rather than as a whole. It's like the West Indies, they're a group of nations yet come the Olympics they are split into their individual countries.

I would have thought as someone from Ireland, Scotland, Wales or England you would want to represent your country. Surely there would be more pride in, for example, Scotland if a Scotsman actually won a gold as opposed to a Welshman or Englishman? I may be wrong, but that is how I see it.

Also, does anyone know the actual reason they are Great Britain rather than individual countries? I've never quite understood (or even bothered to look up) that one.

because our Olympic body is the British Olympic association ...so we send a british team...

i'm all for us reverting back to the pre 1707 union act.......i'm very glad GB rugby league has split up into england, wales & scotland for example...but for the olympics we should go as GB..

So, another gold to New Zealand in windsurfing.

We still have Sarah Walker in the BMX as a realistic medal chance.

It's already our best Olympics since Barcelona. We've won more golds here, though. BMX still to come.
