I was thinking with the whole Blacktown/Canberra thing they should be called the Greater Western Sydney Beach Balls.

Funny things in the press. This article in Aug 2011 said GWS got to 10,000.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-pre ... 6121371325

Five months later they pass 4000.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 6247801378

This article says 3-4000 "local members" after having 12,000 odd Foundation members who paid $50. Is that a good conversion rate consdiering you could get an entry level membership from $135 adults? An extra $85 for 5 home games.

http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/gian ... 1nsz0.html

Media reports from Jan 2012 say that half of those 4000 members are outside Sydney, which basically equals Canberra.

They'll average 12-15,000 as people are curious and they get big away support from certain games (Swans and Collingwood especially). The challenge will be converting the casuals into peoper members.

And on that note, it'll be interesting to see how the Suns' crowds go this year, and next year, and the year after that...

Blacktown is hosting the West Coast game while they finish the renovations on the Showground. Sydney has four AFL venues this year for two teams.

No matter how dumb the Nigels/Beach Balls fans are, they'll still have a greater understanding of the "holding the ball" and "push in the back" rules than the umpires.

First year novelty effect, Nines. You know it well because you love pointing out how far Western Force's crowds have fallen since their first season.

I'm impressed somebody using logic for a change.
Yes, Perth is big on the "novelty factor" ,IMO bigger than most places.
Yet to be seen if it is true on the GC.
IMO the increasing onfield standard will more than compensate for the theatre-goers.

Including me. Their crowds have been remarkably resilient given they've never been delivered a team to contend for the title.

Heard the GWS theme song on Fox Sports News this morning - the only positive thing to say about is that it's reminded me that it's been too long since I had a piss-up at the Lowenbrau Kellar

I reckon it's great. The original's good too.

Seriously, I like it. Better than Gold Coast, Freo, and some others.
