"floater" conjures up gruesome images. Not the best name for a meaty treat.

AFL has announced the 2011 draft is to be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

I thought the Rooty Hill RSL was a shoe-in...

Okay I've got a few things to get off my chest about Fremantle.

1) They're sh*t.

2) They traded Andrew McLeod for Chris "Who" Groom.

3) After an extensive review of their somewhat poofy combination of green, red and purple they elected to ditch the red and green and hold on to the poofy purple.

4) They're currently inviting club members to vote on a new club song, of which one of the candidates is........... the old song.

I'm looking hard and I'm not finding much of a footy club to be honest.

Who owns AFL clubs? Are they genuinely member-owned (in that the members are shareholders who would get a cut of assets and profits) or are they another model?

All AFL clubs are not for profit. Most AFL clubs are public companies limited by guarantee - they are 'owned' by the members, but they don't have shares, and I believe they have clauses preventing any distribution of profits or assets to members.
The only exceptions I know of are West Coast and Fremantle. WC is limited by shares which are owned by the WAFC, Fremantle is limited by shares and guarantee, the shares held by the WAFC with the members controlling part of the club and able to elect a couple of directors. Some other clubs have slightly different arrangements, the Adelaide clubs and Sydney have licence agreements which allow outside control despite being member owned entities. GC and GWS have interim arrangements with the AFL but are also member owned.

Ironically, North Melbourne were the last club to be privately owned and not have non-profit status. They converted back to a membership based club when someone realised they may as well be a not for profit given there were never going to make a profit anyway.

Club constitutions set out whether dividends are payable to members.

GWS play a whopping 6 games at the Showgrounds. Epic.

Can we get the AFL to lobby for an aids vaccine?
