This will be interesting. The skills set of rugby league and AFL aren't entirely similar, but IMO they overlap more than they don't. If he brings a physical mungrel element to the game it could be good to watch, especially against teams soft as butter such as Melbourne and Richmond.

As for the kicking, if he's ever kicked a field goal in RL then he's already qualified to join the Fremantle FC. And arguably Perth Glory.

He played some AFL at school, so he isn't completely foreign. But it's still a huge jump.

It will be very interestign to watch and it will draw many people - hencce why he has been signed.

Caroline Wilson will love this. She'll be positively gushing on Offsiders if not earlier. It gives me the shits when she talks down RL or says the code is at breaking point. She has no idea how resilient the code is.

IMO He will be the best signing for club on a pure publicity basis. These guys aren't going to entice a superstar to the club, AFL players have probably been much more loyal then Rugby players (i'm talking say the last 10-15 years, as before that I have no idea)

This is the biggest publicity stunt I've ever seen. And it'll be a costly one. If he turned down such a massive offer from the Broncos months ago, imagine what GCFC are paying him.

He went to Churchie who play in a bit of a joke of competition. While its a GPS school AFL isn't considered a GPS sport so I'm pretty sure them and BBC were the only top level private schools in the comp.

Nah all the major's play it. Ippy, Nudgee, Grammer, State High, Churchie, BBC, although Gold Coast must have it's own competition. It's not a bad level comp either you tend to get a good number of boys who play Aussie Rules at club level along with a few of the back line rugby boys who know how to kick, and the hitting is certainly hard due to the prevalence of rugby players. Your right in that It isn't a GPS sport, but all the private schools around Brisbane are allowed to play it in it, and there can be up to about 4 divisions in opens, plus other under-age groups. I think to make it GPS like, only the GPS schools compete in the Div 1. It runs week nights instead of saturdays as well.

We have won something, Freo haven't...

Gold Coast have already signed a plethora of young players in WA as well...

If you can kick a football and are aged 16-18 they have probably looked at you over here as well. WA would be the advantage of having Gey McKenna on the team I imagine. They would know all the best talent going around, except for players like Liam Jurrah hiding in the middle of Australia.

If they haven't won a premiership by about 2015/6 then the recruiters have probably failed.

AFL will break in Qld and NSW long before League will. Ms Wilson needs to stick to stuff she knows something about. Not sure that anyone knows what that is yet.

If one K Hunt happens to be successful in AFL I will not stop laughing. AFL's recruitment strategy will be to find an RL player who is past it and completely out of form. Sign him up and make him a star in the game that was invented because real football was too tough for Victoria's finest sportsmen. mmm.

Pfft, weren't you watching last weekend? At least the trophy we won still actually exists.

No they haven't. They just signed a couple of Tassie kids, but no-one from WA (yet).

On Hunt, it turns out he does actually have a reasonable footy background. And he'd want to. It's not the skills that are the major problem, it's reading the play.

So Premierships before 1987 are null and void in the AFL?
