Does anyone remember the Gold Coast Cougers/Rollers who played in the NBL until 1996?
I'm going to cop it, but here goes.
Hot dogs and I were having a chat about trading cards, so I pulled out some of the old collection and what have I got here? Full set of 1994 futura NBL cards.
Gold Coast Rollers players:
Andre Le Fleur
Andrew Goodwin
Mike Mitchell
Mathew Reece
John Szigeti
Greg Fox
The home strip was predominantly green with some white.
And just to bring this back on topic with Austadiums in general, I just found a card for the Geelong Supercats and former Australia player Ray Borner. Some may know him as the bloke who was on channel 10's Sex/Life programme, talking about how he loves a good bonk before every game. Sex/Life was of course hosted by everyone's favourite Tottie Goldsmith

That's an Adelaide moment.
I remember the Gold Coast Cougars/Rollers. They played at the Carrara Indoor Stadium. Another good old NBL facility.
The new team will play at the new Convention Centre. Like other regional Qld sides, I think the GC could do well in the NBL. There are no other summer sports teams so that will be in their favour.
For the WNBL, Bendigo could make a real go of it. sandyhill is the resident expert on country Victoria so he may be able to expand on this but the low costs of WNBL teams and the fact that most are based in the South East will help. As the article says, a SE Qld team should be looked at as well. The NZ WNBL team I'm not so confident about. Travel and the associated costs will be a problem, especially since this Canterbury team will have little connection - and therefore cost saving opportunities - with the Auckland based NZ Breakers.
