i agree. although i'm victorian, i'd still like to see martyn back into the australian team where he rightfully belongs.

Traitor  .
One has to perform very poor to be dropped from the Australian team. Martyn got dropped because of his very poor performances over the last 6 months - he was pathetic through the entire ashes tour. Hodge is 5 years younger and has comprehensively outperformed Martyn at first class level over the last 2 years. When was the last time Martyn made a big smashing century against an international team like Hodge's dominant performance yesterday?

We forget that Martyn's only bad series was the Ashes. He was just about our best batsman last year, and got a century against New Zealand in the last test series before England. Definitely a scapegoat.

A whole 5 test Ashes series. Thats enough - just as it was for Dizzy.
Harsh maybe ... but fair - and don't forget his advanced years. If Hodge (or any other batter) gets similar figures to Martyn's Ashes figures, then he too should be dropped ... in fact if that happens, I don't think he'd even last 5 tests.

If Martyn was from NSW he wouldn't have been dropped

Welcome aboard dropkick!

Martyn was made a scpaegoat for England but to blame it on NSW is ridiculous. NSW has made Australian cricket great!

Greg Matthews was dropped for Tim May when Mo had a batting average of 41.08. In 6 of his last 8 Test innings he passed 50. He'd also formed a good partnership with Shane Warne in Sri Lanka (taking 7 wickets in the First test) and was carrying on vs the Windies.

Michael Slater was dropped 3 tests after making a double ton and while having an average of 47 at the time.

And finally - look at the selectors. It's not exactly a Drive Ave old boys club.

A New South Welshman was dropped. Hopefully this ridiculous notion that NSW players are a protected species will go as well.

Hopefully Symonds is 12th man. I'd love to see McGrath, Lee, Bracken, Warne and MacGill take the field in Adelaide.

Well the order of Western Australians in the Test Squad has been restored. 8)

Hussey's captaincy has probably been the main reason why WA are so crap this year...

Looking forward to seeing Hussey at the WACA!

With big Merve now a test selector, all is now well! Rapt to see both Hodge and Hussey do well and retain their spots. Both look like they belong at this level (though Hodge's absense could stuff up the Vics Pura Cup chances - they're used to depending on him).

As for Clarke - like Boon, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Langer, Hayden, Ponting - he'll be back.

Not the only one 8)

One hit wonders those Poms

Although why is Simon Jones not in the team? It defies belief.

So did the pitches in England give them the winning advantage? It seems if they had of played in Pakistan, Australia would have walloped England.

Its also interesting to note, that Australia in Pakistan could be another great test and show the Pakis true colours of how hard they are to win at home against...last time we played in Pakistan we played in Sharjah United Arab Emirates because of the bomb that exploded near the Kiwis in Karachi.

Simon Jones had surgery on that ankle that kept him out of the 5th Ashes Test. Did a lot of conventional rehab after the Ashes but after a while it was apparent it wasn't working and so surgery it was.
