Rugbly League worse off due to Soccer

Post by Nines »

I wanted to be a snag and say rl is worse off due to "football" but that would just be too damn confusing .

If you go the ABS site they have participation rates for all football codes and they use the criteria of 15yo and above .

Basically in all other states other than QLD and NSW Australian Rules football is by far the dominant code with soccer in the far distance .
In NSW and QLD the situation is somewhat reversed with soccer clearly having the bulk of participation . In the far distance is rl in NSW and in QLD it's the other football codes in the distance .
Since rl is basically confined to QLD and NSW in this country it can be seen that the major threat to rl is not RU or AFL but soccer ; with soccer now trying it's utmost to convert superior participation in those states into national football support . With the expansion and good support of the AL this seems to well in motion .

More people have played soccer compared to RL in NSW for the past 30 years at least.

When you are in you have finished school and realise that you don't realy have much chance of being a professional rugby league player, most people take an easier option of playing union or soccer or doing nothing or even aussie rules rather than getting the crap bashed out of you on the weekend. That way you can still socialise with your mates but don't have to worry about intense training and possible severe injuries

I suppose in the aussie rules states the game is soft enough for people to still play into their later years and not get too injured

Today I saw a couple of people wearing Liverpool shirts at Uni, but I didn't see anyone wearing a RL shirt. So therefore Sokkah is winning. AFL is ok because I also saw a guy wearing a Carltank jersey, poor misguided fool.

Try playing AFL in Brisbane. The Junior league alone stretches from Bribie Island to Caboolture, to Ipswich, to Jimboomba, to Beaudesert, to Beenleigh, to Redland Bay/Victoria Point and everywhere in between, over 40 clubs now I believe. The State League Division 2 Seniors comp stretches from Noosa to Coolangatta.
