Doesn't the NRL constantly bang on about how almost all of the top rating sports on Foxtel are rugby league, not AFL?

Fox sports recently published its top 15 rating sport events in its 15 year history.
The NRL had 4 of the events including 2 games from this year.
The other games were international cricket, soccer and rugby union. There were no AFL games there - but I am not sure if AFL is shown on fox sports or another foxtel channel

Yeah I think it would be reasonably fair to say that NRL does a touch better than AFL on Fox Sports for Ratings.
http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2011/05/pay ... ek-18.html that is the latest week released, and you can see that NRL games take 4 of the top 5 spots. However on the flip side, AFL Talk/Magazine shows do a lot better than their League counterparts. After the bounce, On the Couch, AFL Teams, AFL 360 doing better than League Lounge or NRL on Fox.

So the CEO of foxtel has no idea on what he's talking about then ..

My point was that there's aleady a reason for AFL fans to subscribe to Fox Sports. They have a lot of content you cannot get on free to air and even more content at a reasonable hour. Nevertheless, the guarantee of all games live will be a massive boost for them.

The 7Mate thing is great too. It has become more important as the Swans and AFL generally play more night games in crucial ratings periods. When the Swans played mostly day games, Seven had no problem putting it up against an Elvis movie on Nine, whose RL coverage was delayed to 6:30pm or 4pm in those days. Lately, Ten and Seven have battled in the RL states when their games have been on the main channels in prime time. Putting it on 7Mate gives Seven a chance at winning the ratings/making money on the main channel in the RL states as well as providing fans with live coverage and potential exposure to more households than Pay TV offers. It's what many of us here saw in multi-channelling when OneHD was launched.

The NRL won't get that with Nein (sic) in the AFL states because they're impotent fuckers, even though RL ratings in Vic, the few times it's been live have compared well to AFL ratings in the RL states.

yeah for games not involving a WA team...

Plus we've never had Friday Night live games on TV, or if we have not for a long time. The value for the TV rights is a game kicking off at 9:30pm in Sydney and Brisbane, not so much the ratings in Perth.

That's the point every time rl is shown on TV at a reasonable hour in Perth it bombs and has to be removed !

And AFL prime time telecasts bomb in Sydney and Brisbane. SBS has defeated the Swans in Sydney on a Saturday night. The only difference is that contracts mandate their broadcast in AFL but not in the NRL.

If it was as rosy as some depict it, the SEVEN would show surplus AFL games in Sydney in the new deal and not 7Mate.

Exactly my point .It's difficult for the AFL yet egan thinks somehow it's going to miracuously turn around for rl in Perth despite numerous failed attempts .
