Brazil 2014 Stadiums

Post by gyfox »

Brazil 2014 is only 4 years away and with FIFA wanting all stadiums complete for the Confederations Cup in 2013 there is much to do. Currently things aren't going well and FIFA has given Brazil one month to get things going and are reported to be prepared to make drastic decisions on changing cities and venues in September. An interesting site to follow what is happening is given below. I would be interested in hearing any news that anyone gleans from their readings.

The link below is to a recent assessment of the issues Brazil is facing in bringing its stadiums up to FIFA standards. It gives a fairly graphic picture of the inadequacies and issues faced. Happy reading :)

Short description: our stadiums are old and decrepit and we're too poor to upgrade. Also, some fans stand on the seats.

Good summary of a 4 year PhD project.

Morumbi Stadium in Sao Paulo has been dropped from the list of venues for Brazil 2014. They didn't meet the deadline for submission of final plans and approved finances.

the biggest stadium in the biggest city is off the project? I don't think I'm over-reacting by saying that Brazil 2014 is a fukn shambles

USA getting 2014, pulling out of bidding for 2022 and leaving Aus the clear favourites?

or Brazil pull out, England gets 2014, Europe still given 2018 and USA and Aus still fight over 2022

better: Brazil pull out, England gets 2014, Europe told you've just had one, USA given 2018, Asia gets 2022. Australia wins!

I think world governing bodies need to think twice about giving big tournaments to countries with a history of busted-arse administrations. Athens 2004, New Delhi 2010 and this. They're all all right by the end but f**k me they give you a heart attack.
