Since it is sponsored by AMI, I would think it is insured for such things? I would think if it can't be used as is then Christchurch needs to find a new site, dismantle it and rebuild. Sport is such a big part of New Zealand's culture like Australia, it needs to be rebuilt for the sake of the nation.

Pictures from the Otago Stadium, also known as Forsyth Barr Stadium, opening as well as a video of the All Blacks training there. Looks absolutely stunning.

This is what Townsville needs if it is ever going to field a team in the A-League again. The Nux will be playing Brisbane there in a pre-season game on July 20.

What about those rainbow seats in New Plymouth? It's like something out of Willy Wonka.

Geez looking at those stadiums makes you wonder how NZ managed to be awarded the World Cup. This is the showcase event for world rugby and 'stadiums' like those in Palmerston North and Nelson are part of the package? Fair dinkum...

Compare those with the venues of the following World Cup in England where seven of the venues are proper rectangular grounds with capacities of 50,000+.

It was a political gesture, brought about after NZ got pushed out of co-hosting in 2003 because they couldn't guarantee clean stadiums.

In future, NZ will only be able to co-host with Oz. That will filter out a lot of the more basic venues. Even then, an Oz-NZ RUWC will be quite rare given that the IRB demand a massive cash payment as a precondition to hosting these days.

Yeah, I realise that, but still frustrating. It will have two effects:
1. The event will lose a truckload of money
2. These goat tracks being used for the showpiece rugby event of the world makes the whole sport look third rate.

Apparently one of the reasons England was awarded the hosting rights for the next Cup was the assumption that the NZ event would lose money and they needed a big event to balance the ledger.

to be fair, the sport makes the sport look third rate.
