They should get people out of their cars and onto public transport. Suncorp works well in this way.
Perth does have great access to Subiaco Oval by both train and bus. People can get out at one of 2 stations depending on which side of the ground they are on.

Maybe they need the same sort of incentive Swans members have been given in Sydney. They will be given FREE access throughout the Cityrail network to BOTH the SCG and Homebush. Considering the prices of train travel in Sydney these days, that is a huge coup! :D

But hey, we could have the stuff-ups we had at the Australia-Brazil match a couple of years ago where we had a train derail. At least then it would be an excuse for the cult Cityrail PA annoucement by the pornstar voiceover woman "The trains are late and out of timetable order. Cityrail apologises for the delay" "(What are you wearing big boy?" etc etc   )

Like Perthsmike said their is alot who use public transport...I myself have taken full buses to a pre-season match. But Hay Street is not meant to have 10,000 vehicles wanting to get to the one place at the same time.

Its not as bad as 22,000 at the WACA but it comes close.

Free travel is given for Rugby Union test matches, AFL finals, NSL finals. AFL games remain a $1.30 ticket from were I am.

$3.00 for an all day ticket on both the bus and train not bad value...just the train is still getting constructed to service my area...won't be finished for another few years.

Welcome to the Cleveland St/South Dowling St nightmare Egan. I'm pretty sure that this is the reason alone that all Friday night Swans matches were stopped at the SCG. With the airport Eastern and south-eastern suburbs transport already clogging the surrounding area in peak-hour was a complete disgrace. You would hear stories of people being stuck in buses for over an hour (it takes 30 minutes max to walk from Central Station to the SCG, and that is going up Foveaux St hill of death!)
ARL State of Origin of a Wednesday night was the WORST, I can tell you!

Still I guess 3 cars at the lights would still constitute a traffic jam in little old Dullsville, wouldn't it Perth's Mike:P

His record is quite impressive.
In the scheme of things where is Bunton Jnr placed considering he didn't play in Vic (A topic of much conjecture in itself whether greatness equalled playing in the VFL. Look at Ebert, notwithstanding his one season with the Kangaroos in 1979)?

Was it Haydn Bunton Snr or Jnr that died in a car accident?

Serious, having stayed with friends who happened to work in Hay StreetSubi I got to go all the way around the ground more than once. Personally I like the ground. I had seats in the "left of screen" grandstand and thought the ground was great. Good access to toilets and food outlets. And pass outs, unlike EVERY ground in Sydney!

I know Roberts Rd is right on the side of the office, but it is that stand that is keeping Subi's capacity lower than what it should be. From a ground point of view, why build 3 tiers at each end when only 1,5 tiers are used on one wing. I passed that wing dragging the Swans flags back to the Irish club. From what I saw it was about 10 rows of seats then nothing more than corporate boxes stacked on top of one another.

Or why not build another tier to the stand on the other (commentary side) wing? And PLEASE move that scoreboard from under there to somewhere where people can actually see it properly.

I was pleasantly surprised by Subiaco though. I didn't think it'd be as good a ground as it is. Just wished they'd let people stand behind the goals. Heaps more room that Footy Park where they let them stand up the back. Today we have a generation of people who do not know what it is like to stand on a terrace at the footy.

Man, $3.00 to get from as far away as Mandurah. UNBELIEVABUBBLE!!!!

To get from Penrith or Sutherland to the SCG it costs upward of $8 return. From the inner west I change trains at Redfern and get persecuted by the grey Cityrail security Nazis for $6.6o to Olympic Park. Or pay a $6 one way if you go to one of the rip-off booths they set up for special evebnts like the Collingwood match! :x

My Train/bus/FERRY travelpass costs me $32 a week. I catch the 355 bus direct from Newtown to the SCG!

What do you reckon Perth listees? What percentage of attendees go by car, and what by public transport to Subo?

JF catching the ferry every day from Neutral Bay for a less then a kilometre when i have been in Sydney, shows me the price of transport in Sydney...but it is excellent.

See it must be a home state thing, they say you always complain about traffic in your home city and that you think its better over the border.

When i went to a sell out at the SCG, yes it was a bit of a traffic jam we did leave a bit late. But the way they divert traffic and their car policy which allows cars out before people...superb. Buses having a whole street free without being caught in a traffic jam.

Then go along Hay Street and its a natural disaster...seriously you must go early.

I am thinking you sat in the ANZ stand, not bad viewing personally like the cushioned chairs with the awesome view in the second tier...went to Subi just the other week for the rally.

JF - Technically I live north of Mandurah and am still part of the metro area...just like to clarify that I am not a country bumpkin

Also I am a student...thus cheaper bus prices.

This is not self gloating. About the capacity of the ground, I recently spoke to Wayne Bradshaw the CEO of the WAFC about the future plane of Subiaco Oval. http://www.austadiums.com/news/news.php?id=112

You will find your answer to why this wing has not been redeveloped...its been discussed on the many other Subiaco Oval threads...theirs about 50 out their.

Before the last redevelopment terracing was at the city end of the ground and thus they turned the venue into an all-seater ground. This was highly annoying to some people who had stood at the football for decades...they had to change their viewing.

Then this year or last year the State Government due to us paying exorbant AFL ticket prices due to the lower capacity planned to replace the bottom tier of the three tier stand with terracing in order to give lower ticket prices to families...quite predictably we never heard of it since.

From Mandurah/Rockingham were public transport limited to bus I would say 20% would be in Buses.

But up Perthsmike on the other side of the world, north of the river a higher proportion would use Public Transport. Thus the Narrows Bridge is converted into a crawl for a few kilometers after the game.

I was highly surprised at how good the traffic was in Sydney in April...when i came up to Sydney we had no traffic problems from being on a coach between Canberra and Sydney.

JF shall be experiencing the terraces next season, can't wait to go to a Glory Game in the shed...for how much longer it stays terracing...thats undetermined...I have to educate Perthsmike in how to love the world game...going to the shed will be the perfect institution to start his support of the game

I'm going to make a token comment about the train services available at Subiaco. They are good. This is a thinly disguised way of forwarding my real agenda, which is to take this thread off topic and make my thoughts about Sydney public transport known.

Sydney PT is a friggin JIP!!!!

I paid $5.60 for a train ticket that let me go on 6 stops. City Loop was it? What an unfortunate name - the Cty Loop in Adelaide is a free bus that goes 20 stops around half of the city of Adelaide. Man, $5.60 for a train ticket. And it's not like the f***ing thing comes anyway. "train has been delayed... due to... track work.... train has been delayed... due to... track work... train has been... f**k.. are you... still... here... you idiot..."

Now, Adelaide. We don't have the most comprehensive network. But I kinda like my muilti modal $1 off peak fares that let me get on anything any amount of times within a 2 hour period. None of this hopping off a bus and having to pay for some other sh*t as soon as you get on something else. I pay around 20 dollars for a peak and off peak multi trip. This last me around 2 weeks. Boo yah.

Sometimes I just say fuckit and think it'd be easier around Sydney in a car. Except you have to pay to drive on every second road. So you jump in a cab. "ersekinville road newtown thanks" ... "ahh.. you're going to have to help me out here" - "You're the one who f***ing lives here sohail!!!!!"

Grrr.

So anyway, Subiaco.

I walked from the Opera House to Darling Harbour in April.

We have free bus services around the city of Perth and Fremantle...trains included within the city limits.

Went on the bus, train and ferry when I was in Sydney...parents payed so it didnt bother me how much it costs...we got the weekly ferry tickets anyway...it worked out cheaper apparently.

An extensive Public Transport system but that means it incredibly expensive...hmm its only cheap for pensioners.

Welcome to my life

Although everything will be sorted once the train gets here...have been waiting for it for so long.

Yob if you hadnt realised theirs another 20 Subiaco pages in the forum for people to discuss our conversation, you diverting one of the topics isnt going to do much harm

No because i am patient...plus its the only downfall and I dont have the money to move...and I needed to finish school

Plus I don't really want to live anywhere else...it will be here in time...I will just have to put up with air-conditioned buses in the mean time.
