The 'no longer meets ICC standards' bit confuses me.

So we're to believe the grounds in places like Harare and Chittagong, or glorified suburban ovals in Hamilton and Dunedin have a higher standard of facilities?

Yeah, I thought the same. Two options:

1. The quote was incorrect and the ICC actually has NO problem with the WACA.
2. The quote was correct and the WACA doesn't meet standards, but neither do a whole lot of other grounds around the world.

I'm guessing that the ICC would only step in if player safety was at risk. The fact that some of the crowd have to queue up to buy a beer is perhaps less than ideal, but hardly grounds for the ICC taking a stance on whether games should or should not be played there.

The more relevant point is whether Cricket Australia will continue to schedule games there.

No it's code for we hate seeing England and to a lesser extent other countries lose at the WACA constantly.

Why did they ever do that redevelopment at the WACA in 2002 when 11 years later it would be sub-standard

It was a pretty pissant redevelopment. No new stands were built (2 were demolished), grass banks replaced seats and new seats with more legroom and a higher gradient were installed.

Typical f***ing construction site; everyone's standing around watching while two blokes do all the work.
