Long term thinking, something that the state usually doesn't do won out in the minds of voters.

I am looking forward to taking photos for the forum, moving about 1.5km from the new stadium in the next few weeks
What exactly does the site rejuvenate? There's nothing there. It's a greenfield development, with the challenges (costs) of a brownfield. This is not an urban regeneration project.

Just because you need to wait ages for any benefits to accrue, doe not make the decision long term. At some point you need to draw a line - if the benefits that accrue don't benefit the generation who serviced the interest then it's not an equitable decision. And even worse, they have to spend a quarter of their working lives not enjoying the ability to attend the football like the generation before them could, just so this "long term" decision can (not) be made.

And btw, isn't it just damned lucky that the snap decision to build a billion dollar driveway for Packer's casino turned out being the "long term" choice, in fact the people who made the decision seem to confirm it every time they speak.

Site location was a political football for last state election.

WA picked Burswood. Better access for fans, able to be expanded as population increases and away from a WAFC/Subiaco Council control. Government will be able to manage it to grab the events it wants.

But if we get back to the start in 2002, they should have built the venue in Cockburn Central, which was my first choice and is still where I would put it today.

A consortium led by Brookfield Multiplex has won the contract to design, build, and manage Perth's new sports stadium in Burswood.

The State Government is expected to reveal the final design for the stadium and surrounding sports precinct later this week, with Premier Colin Barnett likely to take a break from his holidays to make the announcement.

In April, Mr Barnett announced that a consortium called WESTADIUM, headed by Brookfield Multiplex, was the preferred bidder to undertake the stadium project.

The ABC understands that after weeks of negotiations, the Government has now finalised agreement on all terms and conditions of the contract, and as early as Thursday, plans to give the public its first look at the design of the stadium and the precinct.

The Government has promised the 60,000-seat stadium will have better and bigger seats than Subiaco Oval and sightlines as good as the MCG and Docklands Stadium – to ensure fans have the best view.

It is understood delivering on the sightlines commitment was one of the final sticking points as it negotiated the awarding of the contract.

It is also understood there will be LED lights on the outside of the stadium, allowing it to be lit up in team colours on game days.

There is expected to be a strong Indigenous theme to the design.

When announcing the preferred bidder selection, the Premier said full details of the cost of construction would be revealed when the final contract was completed.

Brookfield Multiplex built Wembley Stadium in London and Multiplex was founded in Western Australia by the late John Roberts.

Construction of the stadium is due to start in December and open in time for the 2018 AFL season.

Confidem and Evolution were the two other private sector consortia who put forward proposals to deliver the stadium project.

Won't be getting much done in any December - construction sites close long before Christmas and typically don't resume until mid January.

A slight bigger version of Docklands. Eagles and Dockers gear in the crowd. Awkwardly-placed scoreboard.

Could be real.

It has the all important "baffling inclusion of tennis courts" so it could be bull sh*t on the lower end of the scale.

An article about a design being unveiled that doesn't actually reveal the design.

Genius.
