That's expensive. Is it true that $8 is the standard price for a schooner in Perth? That's what I've heard.

Yeah they expanded into Subiaco the CBD tourist exemption at the start of last year. They expanded it about a 10km circle from CBD.Rob wrote:Isn't Subiaco a tourist precinct?
It's certainly a tourist mecca. Where else can you go to pay $12 for a pint of local beer?
Rob Claremont has similar beer pint prices...
Jeffles, depends on where you go. I paid $12 for a pint of Stella at Mustang Bar in Northbridge, but pints are bigger than schooners.
If you go to our 'local' before glory games we get pint specials of $7.50 for Tooheys New, Guiness and Kilkenny at Phant and Wheelbarrow.
I've found that alcohol prices are like 30-40% cheaper in Bunbury than Perth and Mandurah.

I was paying $3 for scooners of Stella (which are called pints in Adelaide) in Newtown.Egan wrote:Yeah they expanded into Subiaco the CBD tourist exemption at the start of last year. They expanded it about a 10km circle from CBD.Rob wrote:Isn't Subiaco a tourist precinct?

And I was paying $3 for pints of Coopers in Adelaide. It's a premium brand here

^ Yes, alcohol prices on the east coast are awesome.
But as I have said before, I'll happily pay more in alcohol for there to be no pokies on the eucla side of the nullabor.

Pokies typically subsidise the meals, not booze.Egan wrote:^ Yes, alcohol prices on the east coast are awesome.

Sure, paying $10 for a shnitty is tough but someone has to do it. I also vageuly remember paying $5 for a steak and potato mash in Sydney. And I haven't played a pokie in my life - the ultimate free ride.

Pokies also subsidise grog, as you can see in any big RSL or Leagues Club here. But even non-pokie venues here have realtively cheap beer prices.

Don't quote me on this, but I have heard there is an extra tax on alcohol here in WA on beer that causes the price to be so high.Jeffles wrote:Pokies also subsidise grog, as you can see in any big RSL or Leagues Club here. But even non-pokie venues here have realtively cheap beer prices.

That's just a byproduct of competition. You stick a pokie palace with $5 pints next to, say, the Inglewood (which i'll use as an example because I was paying $10 for a pint of Coopers pale ale there on the weekend) then you can bet your ass that they won't be charging $10 a pint for very long if they want to stay in business.Jeffles wrote:Pokies also subsidise grog, as you can see in any big RSL or Leagues Club here. It also doesn't help that it's virtually impossible to open a pub within 10km of another one in Perth now anyway given our horrendously draconian liquor licencing laws, which works to completely stifle any potential competition in the first place. So pubs can pretty much charge what they want over here. Which they duly oblige.

The dodgier the pub the cheaper the prices.
The bloody Vic and Claremont Hotel are the most expensive of the lot in my experience. Wankfest as well.

It looks a bit tight. I mean, you can fit a stadium in there but not much else because of that golf course. Not much in the way of parking. You'd use the Casino.

Loving the whinging replies about why the WA taxpayer should foot the bill.
Because you can, moneybags.
