They're up against Carrington Park in Bathurst for a semi-final.

Manly are pretenders? Missing today were the likes of Brett Stewart, Jamie Lyon, Stephen Bell, Brent Kite & Steve Matai. All rep players at either test or state of origin level. Thats a hard quintet to cover. Especially when all but one is our centres, fullback and 5/8. Over half the backline.

Having those 5 in the side plus Menzies closer to the play in the 2nd row and Manly would have walked all over St. George-Illawarra today. As it was, Manly lost. No other excuses though. ON THE DAY the side we had on the park just didn't do enough to win. Simple.

Next week we should have our full strength side back on the field. Then we shall see if Manly are the pretenders you claim them to be Jeffles. I do believe you'll be proven wrong.

But thats just my opinion isn't it. Time will tell.

OKI Jubilee Stadium, athletics field!

Meanwhile a clever poster over at the Jubilee Avenue forum led me to the OKI redevelopment architect's website. The two pictures that can be seen there (http://www.tonyowen.com.au/) are higher resolution versions of pictures I've previously posted on this forum. They're worth checking out if you're interested though.

More interesting is the brief blurb that accompanies them:

"This project is a new grandstand for the St. George Leagues Club at Kogarah Oval. It includes seating for 6400 spectators, new corporate facilities, change rooms, media and a Museum (sic). The design is scheduled for construction in 2007."

That's the first I've seen of the 6400 seat figure. That certainly sounds about right. Fortunately because of the design of the grandstand almost all of those patrons will be accommodated undercover.

Nothing wrong with grass hills, only the softcocks that stay away from them when it rains.

The club toyed the idea of a stand on the eastern side of the ground a couple of years ago. As far as I know that idea didn't get very far. The current approach of developing everywhere except for the eastern hill is ideal as far as I'm concerned. This way you add capacity and facilities in the most cost effective manner whilst also maintaining some of the historic characteristics of the grounds.

Having said that, if they somehow get their hands on more money for further redevelopment I have no doubts that eventually the hill will be consigned to nostalgia. In all likelihood, however, it will be the last part of the ground to undergo refurbishment.

Bump & Update time.

Had a quick look on the weekend. The excavation around the SW corner looks to be complete and it seems that they've started on the foundations etc. No pictures unfortunately.

Or should we say soft-cocks sit down on them full stop.
