The funding is rumoured, and a while ago (a year? EDIT: I looked it up, it was back in May-June 2008) there was some press speculation but it's certainly not confirmed.Simmo79 wrote:I'm looking forward to the northern third of the Western stand being finished. Can't be arsed looking but is the funding locked in for that? is there a timeframe?

that's exactly it. with the curved ends as well, there's a kind of continuity right around the ground, but the squared off sides mean that the wings aren't miles from the action.Jeffles wrote:The viewing at Kogarah is very good. The corners face the centre of the field and on the wings you aren't that far back from the action.
it i can't have a tight little rectangle, a kogarah sized oval is ideal.

WORK still continues on the grandstand extensions at Kogarah's Jubilee Oval, returning as the Sydney home to the St George Illawarra Dragons this season.
But given good weather, the council-leased ground will be ready in time for the first Sydney home game: the big local derby against Cronulla Sharks on Sunday, March 29.
While workmen had hoped to have the extensions completed by the start of the year which will increase ground capacity to about 21,000 they discovered extra replacement and remedial work was needed on sections of the new wing extension and the original stand, including the ground turnstiles and steps.
With only a month to the start of the NRL season, the club was hoping to be able to test the venue in early March, weather permitting.
The playing surface itself was also re-turfed in the off season.
When work is completed, the grandstand wing extension will provide almost 1200 extra top deck undercover seats and an extra 400 corporate seats below.

What better to do on an overcast Sydney day?
Metal structure on the left is the extension/refurbishment completed for R2K 1 back in 2003. Brick structure to its right is part of the new works. To the right again is the new elevator shaft and on the far right is the new corporate dining room with fibre cement walls.
New "Gate A" ticket booth.
Close up of elevator shaft.
Stairs from the bitumen "hard stand" area up to the internal walkway under the stand and then up to the upper level of the existing section of the grandstand.
Back of the corporate dining area and general entry area. Main stairs are to the right (south) of the ticket booths.
Same area, different shot. If you look closely you'll note that the lighting tower actually comes up through the new grandstand section.
Same again from the south side of Jubilee Ave. You can see the main stairs.
Close up showing clearly the lighting tower piercing the grandstand.
By far and away the least attractive angle on the new works.
Close up.
New signage reflecting the new naming rights sponsors.
The view from the corner of Jubilee Ave and the Princes Hwy.
The new stand from the English Street entrance, AKA Gate C.
Ditto.
The extended stand. (Sorry for the blur, the camera refused to focus on anything other than the pole!)
The existing stand. The safety rail at the front of the stand had been removed, and it looks like they've updated some of the seating arrangements at the very top of the stand.
