What are the odds on the minister changing?

None, as I said before the lack of respect to sport in this government is shown by the Minister being a Nationals representative not a Liberal member...

Subiaco Oval - World Cup

Like the FFA will put that in the World Cup bid book

Just heard on 6PR that today the sports minister will release a report that Subiaco Oval is good for another 40 years
In the same report he will state that the 3 tier stand built in 1969 is cracking and there is the chance that passers by may be struck by bits of falling concrete.

damn. no ignore button on here. :x

why would i defend tories?

but nevertheless, if a government decides there are better uses of public funds, that's up to them. if they can make the numbers stack up to do the work, that's also up to them. if it's that big an issue, vote them out.

i'd be stunned if a stadium being built or not built were the matter that is closest to the heart of a state's voters coming into an election.

frankly, there are much bigger and more important issues like basic service delivery that only governments can do. stadiums can be built in large part with private dollars and thereafter be privately managed. the same is not quite true of the state's hospitals and schools.

Surely private schools and hospitals have been shown to be better managed than state owned ones. I worked for state and local government owned service delivery organisations for 30 years and found them to be the most wasteful, poorly managed "businesses" imaginable.

When public companies go under every 15 years they call it a bailout.

When governments go under every year they call it 'Tax Time'

I saw MES properly for the first time last night during the Glory game. What a terrible little stadium, are the Force really playing there as is?

No, there will be more lego added

Capacity will be 20,700 for the Force and towards the latter end of the Glory season/finals...

I was just reading on the Gamesbid site that the coast of the MES upgrade has hit $300M. Has anyone else heard any rumours to this effect?

Not surprised

The longer WA delays upgrading venues, the more prices increase.

An increase from $160M to $300M in less than six months is inflation of the highest order.

What does that $300 million get us? A FIFA World Cup stadium or something more along the lines of 30-35000 talked about for a while?

The rumour didn't include details. Hopefully at that price the WA Government will make sure that the venue is capable of being upgraded to World Cup standard but it would need to be on a different site unless they are going to resume surrounding properties and close some streets.

High inflation is an inevitable consequence of the restrictive IR policies of socialist Labor governments.

Especially ones of a liberal persuasion.
