Who's Eddie McGuire?
Some random dickhead who thinks you can trademark black and white...
And who also asks simple questions on some non event tv news lead up programme.
Just making sure we are talking about the same person.
And his say in whether the Swans play at Homebush is??? (question is for Orel)

Collingwood love playing at Stadium Australia and Ed wants us for that to stay there permanently, and his club in 2009 vetoed clearance for the Swans to play all 11 home games at the SCG. St James I suggest you watch the Eddie McGuire Network (aka Channel 9)

rubbish
eddie has nothing to do with it, aside from commenting on it being a sub standard venue. crap seating and pathetic surface.

the AFL commissioner Mike Fitzpatrick, has a management company that runs the venue. that is the only reason why the AFL uses the venue

The AFL says the Torvill & Dean tribute show will indeed be at Stadium Australia in front of 40,000 adoring empty seats.

They have also confirmed everything is great.

To be fair, the surface was greatly improved for the last game. Not sure why it's been so hard to do for just about every other game...

It's not just a multi-useless stadium for spectators - the players need to make sacrifices too.

It's all to do with the retractable seating on the wings. AFL have to lay down the law to the stadium management and insist the sideline grandstands are kept retracted at least 5 days prior to the AFL fixture.

It's a stadium built with public money. Who died and made the AFL king?

A lot of naivety from south of the Murray with regard to how we in NSW want our taxes spent.

The default position for the seating is retracted as it's a quick process to move in and out. If it wasn't, the ground would be unusable for AFL and cricket.

The point (I think) was that rectangular sports shouldn't be played within 5 days before an oval sport fixture - e.g. no Friday night NRL games followed by Sunday AFL games.

When the stands are extended for the rectangular sports and rolled over the pitch, it buggers the turf underneath, and he's staying that they should ahve 5 days recovery time. You can have the oval sports before the rectangular, but not vice versa.

Management of ANZ should do what they can to provide a suitable surface for every event that occurs at the multi use venue. That being said the NRL is the major tenant of the venue and to suggest that their access to the venue be further limited by a minor tenant is nonsense.

Really though, Australia's never made anything useful that rolls on wheels. i.e. retractable seats at stadium australia, holdens.

Maybe they should only move forward one side for most NRL games. The expected crowd for 80% of them wouldn't justify moving both sides in anyway. They can even rig it so all the crowd sits on that side and have the cameras on the other, giving the impression of a half decent crowd.

That would fix one wing, not both. I'm not suggesting NRL/Wallabies/Waratah's/Socceroos can not play prior to AFL, nor the stadium capacity reduced. It's just these sports will sometimes have to live with the sideline stands in retracted mode.

At Etihad stadium here in Melbourne, most Melbourne Victory, Wallabies and State of Origin fixtures are in oval mode to save the turf. AFL needs to insist the same happens at ANZ or they play elsewhere.
